I admittedly am a die-hard Patriots fan, and I get so sick of people saying that if the Pats go undefeated and win the Super Bowl, they deserve an asterisk next to their record. I believe that people who believe this are living in a dream world, and aught to wake up and see the NFL for what it really is.
The NFL is chock full of controversy, players testing positive on drug tests, the whole Micheal Vick situation, and any number of arrests that have happened outside the field on game day, so why target the Pats? I know the answer but I don't have space to go into it here. All I am asking for this question is read this article, and I want all those Pats haters out there to tell me whether the Broncos deserve (*)'s next to their records, because they circumvented the salary cap, isn't that also cheating???

Well, the difference here is obvious.
People like(d) the Bronco's, and people don't like the Patriots. Simple as that.
Forget about it, your team is easy to hate. They are still 13-0, and there won't be any asterik. But come on, who can hate John Elway?

The 49ers were also caught with some salary cap issues during their SB years. And I'm sure you could find others. What SF and Denver did was kind of a gray area in the salary cap rules that has since been close. And both teams were fined heavily. Bending the rules? Sure. Cheating? No. I don't see the Pats as doing anything that many other teams in the league has done at one time or another. Pats just got caught. No asterisk needed for any.

The Steelers got to the superbowl with a great well-rounded team and won both games. James Harrison's 100 yard interception return and the Ben to Holmes corner of the endzone catch were great players making big plays to get the win on the biggest stage. Both of those plays have been rated in the top ten individual plays in Superbowl history. How about Willie Parker's 75 yard scamper and the Randle El flea-flicker to Ward against Seattle. The truth is, the Steelers won those games because they are talented, not because of poor officiating.

Look, Dude. I know the Broncos broke the rules back then. Pretty much every football fan old enough does. That's why so many people, coaches, players, and regular fans still hate the Broncos. The glory years of their past was partially due to cheating. Flat out. There was proof. Should they have an asterisk? I don't know. It doesn't really matter though. Every fan old enough to remember thinks poorly of the Broncos because of that. Which is basically the same thing as an asterisk. The fans of the teams you guys burn this year will never forget. Rightfully so. Proven cheaters should have to deal with the rath. Deal with it.

I am a die hard 49ers fan and I 100% agree with you I mean **** the 49ers had cap problems as well and pretty much had their last sb win bought and payed for being way over cap. It the NFL the only reason the pats got into this is the jets coach knew it was going to happen and through the pats under the bus because he was a piss off little baby

I've been mentioning that fact with the Broncos and also Niners on every Pats question I've answered. People don't want to hear it because then they wouldn't be able to justify the righteous indignation of the Pats. I don't know what it is that inspires such hatred with them, but its ridiculous. A couple of the 70's Steelers also admitted the team regulated Anabol as part of the training table.

people are only bringing up the asterisk because it's happening at the same time as the barry bonds BALCO thing. there isn't going to be an asterisk next to the patriots. no one is actually serious about putting an asterisk next to the pats should they go undefeated. so relax dude, it's not gonna happen, be happy for your team.

Not at all. First of all I don't personally think that an asterisk be placed with the Patriots, but using the salary cap to help fund a staduim is a little different than videotaping the competition.

dolphins lost a draft pick in the 70s for cheating as well. nobody calls for an * next to their perfect season, either. the good news, though, is its better to have a great team that people hate than a crappy team that no one cars about. remember that when you see people takin cheap shots at patriots.
and rogerc look in the rule book. tuck rule call was the correct call.
