hi keith
since the introduction of cd,s and mini discs people have no longer been interested in playing their long playing vinyl records and programs have been created to transfer the records to cd,s
lp recorder from http://www.cfbsoftware.com/lprecorder/lprecorder.htm,is a simple program that lets you transfer your records to cd,s..its that simple
all you need to do is 1)install lp recorder then 2)connect your record player to your "line in" socket on your sound card or motherboard(soundcard recommended)
then adjust the volume levels on your record player and sound card and then syncronize both so the transfer dosent miss the start of the records
note:the lead you need is a 3.5mm Stereo Jack Male to 2 x Phono Male (http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=292151&CatId=2662),plug the 3.5mm jack into your soundcards "line in" and then plug the 2 x phono male into the auxillary sockets on your hi-fi,this is the hardware set up complete
then run the program from the icon on your desktop and follow the instructions to transfer your music
any problems let me know
good luck keith !

You should start with checking your equipment before you buy any software.
You need to check if your cassette player has Phono outputs. These are identifiable by looking at the ports on the back which should have red and white coloured rings within them. If you do have these then you will need a 3.5mm Stereo jack to twin phono cable in order to hook the cassette player to the computer. If you don't have these ports on the back then you will need a 3.5mm Stereo jack to 3.5mm stereo jack and an adaptor to increase the size of one of the jacks to 4.5mm (i think) and you just connect to the line in on your sound-card and the headphone socket on the cassette player.
Once you've done this then you can start looking at software.
I'd go for Adobe Audition v2.0. You can edit out the background hiss found on cassette tapes.

Hi. Download 'Audacity' first. Run it. Connect the tape sound output the the soundcard input on your machine. Play the tape while in 'Record' mode of the program. Save the file. Copy to CD.
