The only reason i can think of would be that the O-zone layer is getting thinner...

No. It's bunk. It has nothing to do with the ozone layer, either.
It has to do with the Mayans - they, like most other mesoamerican cultures of the time, had what was called a "long-count" calendar.
And the Mayan calendar's last long-count ended on the 20th of december, 2012.
That's not to say that the Mayans believed that that would be the end of the world - that's just as far as they counted. They could easily have gone further.

No one knows the exact time Jesus is coming back. Do not believe these false statements, because remember not too long ago, on 1/1/2000, the world was going to shut down and come to an end. Planes were going to fall from the sky and there was going to be total mayham. What happened? Life lived on...

The year corresponds to the Mayan calander ending and the Nostradamus prediction. Neither of which have any validity. There have been many doomsday predictions, all have passed without incident.

It matters if you believe in the Mayan calendar... they were the most advanced time keeping culture of their time...
