These are the only reasons I can see deleting programs off the system will help you:
1) Another non-essential application is running and consuming system resources. Keep in mind that some programs are essential though so don't delete unless you really know what they are on there for (i.e. don't remove your anti-virus software)
2) You have filled up your hard disk and are receiving low virtual memory messages. In this case, the system is unable to use hard drive space to make up for a lack of adequate physical memory (RAM). You can clean up the disk but the better solution would be to add more RAM and clean up the disk.
Generally the best solution for improving performance in games is to purchase a better video card and adding more system RAM. A faster processor could help, but most modern processors are adequate for the games. Focus on video card and memory upgrades first.

I gotta catch up with Maverick and Jim ? so I'll keep it simple OK?
NO, deleting programs will not make games smoother. When you load a program it is put into RAM first (for quicker responses with the game as it does not have to keep going to the Hard Drive to get info.
The following info is what makes your programs "smoother".
The more RAM you have, the better.
The faster your CPU (Central Processing Unit, Microprocessor, the brains), the better.
The more onboard RAM on your video card, the better as it takes a 'load" off your CPU.
World of Warcraft is a big game, 3.9 Gigs, I think, so be sure you got enough HDD space before you install it.
Do some maintenance, like DEFRAG, and getting rid of useless files and programs (use Windows Cleanup).
You might try and run 'Scandisk' (Start > Run, type in Scandisk) and see if all your tracks on the HDD are good.
;-)

Deleting programs really doesn't do much for performance of the game. The best way to increase performance without upgrading your hardware, would be to eliminate the running processes and background programs you don't need. These use up the RAM that could other wise be used to help the game run smoother. Also, since this is an online game, performance will depend on the quality and speed of your internet connection.

Greetings. My name's Sanjay Patel, and I currently hold an honorary Master's degree in the field of Computer Science. I am aware of, and have personal knowledge related to your question. There are computer maintenance businesses which are probably in your area, however they come at the cost of hiring a professional to enter your home. There may also be some local destinations where you can drop off your computer and wait to have a technician look at it. These options can often be costly, and pretty inconvenient. The answer to this question can probably be found doing a little extra research on Google.
A well-running computer can be a hard thing to maintain. From my experience, there is but only One software which is reputable- and consistently reliable for healing sick, slow computers. Reimage™ is a world-renown, easy to use software designed by Forensic scientists and made for the average person. This thing will fix literally just about ANY problem you could possibly be having with your PC. Reimage was recommended to me by a Professor during my 2nd year of Graduate school.

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.healthboostpc.com
It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.

I am a professional developer with Microsoft, and have about 10 years of experience in the field of Computer Engineering. Most problems with PC's are the result of malicious software that infected a Computer. Examples of this are things such as malware, viruses, trojans, spyware, adware, root kits, and worms. In other cases, they are the result of stability issues due to crashes, freezes, or Hardware Issues. Some examples of hardware issues could be a dirty cooling fan causing the computer to overheat, or low memory due to lack of RAM, which could cause the PC to run slowly. You may think it could be a virus, or malware, or registry issues, but it could be something else entirely. As a computer layman, one may find it hard to really ascertain what exactly is causing the problems, without having a professional do an in depth analysis of your PC.
As professional computer repairs can be quite costly, I would recommend to you a Software that many of us in the tech department here at Microsoft use personally and professionally to diagnose and repair computer problems very quickly. It is a software called Reimage, from https://tr.im/ReimageRepair .. In my personal experience, and in the experience of many of my associates, this is probably the best software ever created for those experiencing computer troubles. This is likely to remedy just about ANY problem your computer could possibly be having, and have it running like new. Reimage has won several awards, and been featured in publications such as PC Mag.

Here is a really neat (and convenient) trick I learned a long time ago. Each icon that sits on the desktop hogs RAM memory. So what I do, is I create a new folder on my desktop. I drag all the icons I can to the folder and drop them in there. This reduces the number of active icons to just ONE! When I need an icon, I just click on my folder and there they all are. Try it out! You will also have a much improved desktop without a passle of messed up icons on it. You can also create sub folders and sort things, like in a menu. I typically have several iconized sub-folders within my UTILITIES folder (as I call it).

It could make a slight difference but only if your hard disk is choc-a-block full of stuff. They work better with about 15-20% free space.
Better video card or more ram will fix the problem. check your specs against the system requirements and see where you're falling down. Or go here and it will tell you

HOW MUCH VIDEO MEMORY R U RUNNING? HOW BIG IS YOUR PROCESSOR? ARE YOU RUNNING A BUNCH OF PROGRAMS IN THE BACKGROUND? U CAN GO TO START RUN TYPE IN MSCONFIG AND TURN OFF SOME PROGRAMS THAT R RUNNING IN THE BACKGROUND. THAT WILL HELP. U CAN ALSO DO A DEFRAG THAT WILL HELP. DELETING PROGRAMS MIGHT HELP ESPECIALLY IF THEY'RE RUNNING IN THE BACKGROUND. BUT THEN AGAIN ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS TURN THEM OFF. DO YOU HAVE A BUNCH OF THINGS ON YOUR TASK BAR? IF SO GET RID OF THEM. RIGHT CLICK WITH YOUR MOUSE AND SELECT CLOSE. HOPE THIS HELPS.
