Is real life really that bad?

I have to say I don't watch them, but my family does so I can't help overhearing the shouting and screaming that always seems to be going on!

They are rather depressing at times are nt they, I do watch them, for various reasons, mainly to help my studies, but also relaxation to. I like people watching and writing, so this also helps.
I think they tend to be rather depressing as they have to write about a microcosm of lives, rather condensed, dealing with day to day issues, and bringing various issues, like homophobia, racial, religious, issues, and lets face it, tragedy makes news more then routine.
I find it even more frustrating, when certain story lines work they way through, I think I COULD HAVE WRITTEN THAT !
And got paid for it !

Life is that bad for some people, worse for others. It is also not so bad for some. I don't find them depressing because they are not real. They don't resemble my life either now or at any time. So I quite enjoy them. I think they have gone too far now though, with some of the content aired before the watershed.

Soaps aren't depressing. Sure, they are sad sometimes but not depressing. I would describe soaps as entertaining and suspensful. 2 hours out of my day are spent watching soaps. I get to relax and enjoy the drama.

You either want to be like them or are glad your life is totally different.I wish my life was as exciting as those in soaps. Real life can be depressing so watching soaps is escapism.

Well I guess they are so depressing because they (the writers and the actors) want you to see what life COULD be. It's also just really entertaining. I'd look through some wikipedia or encarta pages to get the full philosophy!

No and thats the whole point we watch these soups with their neverending problems and we all feel better about our own lives cos no ones life is that bad all the time

I dont know.I watched Eastenders last night and Billy and his young family are about to be made homeless.Eastenders always seem to have these miserable storylines at Christmas,they dont realise its not what we want to watch,

I suppose for some people, yes it is. I don't watch them, never have. I know of a lot of people who are really addicted to them though. There is a button on my remote that I use, when I hear them coming on!

real life is not bad, but only in soaps all the worst things in life they put together that is why so very depressing.
never ending problems...... in real life it doesnt happen that .

They are meant to be a reflection of our everyday lives but there is no way life is like that!
