It depends on the laundry detergent. Read the label direction and see if they mention effectiveness.

I think it depends on the type of laundry detergent and how you launder your clothing... Some of the cheaper detergents are watered down so you have to use more of it to do the same job.... While others are more concentrated so you can use less.... Also, a detergent even if it's good won't work so well if the washer is over crowded.... I use an in the middle detergent and I add baking soda to the wash water... I've found (unscientifically) that I can use about 1/3 less detergent when I add about 1/3 c. of baking soda to my wash water....

so, I'd get cracking and do some laundry. Afterall it's YOUR science project...

If you use more than the recommended amount, you're wasting your money. It doesn't get the clothes any cleaner. If you use less, then your laundry will not be as clean. If you want to boost the cleaning power of your laundry detergent try using borax or baking soda in the wash water. It's loads cheaper.

well actually some manufacturers of detergent will tell u to put in more than needed so that you will buy more unneccesserialy.

so yes you can put in slightly less and still get great results. if you use more it is just creating more bubbles and wont actually clean better. it wont even smell better
