My friend left his myspace page open on my computer and I snooped for no good reason. He had a message in the trash from someone who wasn't his friend asking if he was interested in little boys. I called the police, who came over and took information. They'll be contacting him soon and of course, I hope he's an innocent bystander. How do I break the news to him of what I did? Seriously, I can usually answer questions for myself, but am quite apprehensive. Help.

By the way, my intention when contacting the police was to alert them to the person who SENT the message to my friend. My friend didn't respond to it as far as I know- his sent file was empty.

One more thing because it's been bothering me since dazie girl mentioned it: Without revealing the exact message, I'll say that the sender also said that they had "hot 10 year old boys" avaliable. It wasn't a one sentence message. It was alarming.

IF it was your computer then you have every right to tell him. BUT....I would broach it like this:
"When you left I found this note in the trash. do you want to talk about it?" If he refuses to talk about it or gets defensive then you may have to tell him you called the police.
Right now, I doubt the police will do anything right away as they will need more evidence than one email. They could conceivably tap into your computer to monitor further emails. Just wait and see but I would seriously talk with your friend about this.

I love the way you smooth over some very poor parenting choices you made. A child can be gone in a moment, either by his own seeking to discover or by the hands of a stranger. You can not leave them alone unsupervised in a area like the front yard for even a moment. No matter how much it annoys them, if you have to go inside, they have to come with you. I think asking the 8 year old to wait at home is reasonable, as the little one may come back. The cops is simply and rightly annoyed as he sees the danger that you little one was in. If you honestly don't see a problem with how you are looking after your children, it wont matter if child services come and visit will it? If your just been a little naughty, they would rather attempt to correct that than remove the children.

If this friend of yours is close to you, and if he is truly an innocent bystander, he will know that you only meant well by calling the police. While it may take a little while for you to earn back his trust by snooping his myspace page, it's a better alternative than him finding out some other way. If you tell him now, he will at least be thankful that you told him the truth.

Well, I do think this matter should be taken seriously. However, did you at any point ask your friend about it??
If I were you, I would call him immediately and tell him that you were on the page and thought it was yours (if you have on too) not realizing he didn't close out (or if you dont, just say you were looking at his page to see what he had on there)and saw the message. Let him know you called the cops so that they could catch this pedophile.
If he isn't involved, he should have no problem with it unless he figures out that you snooped and than you will need to beg forgiveness.

If he had it in the trash, it was probably unsolicited and he just chucked it. The only way to really tell is to keep trying to direct the conversation towards windowless vans and seeing if he bites. If so, you can further check by talking about hanging out over by the junior high. These are both good tests.

i say who cares what he thinks. i commend you for what you did! you absolutely did the right thing! there are so many pervs on line you could be saving children from years of abuse or whatnot. ignore stupid people like daizie girl shes dazed AND is oblivious to what is the whole issue here.IF THIS IS TRUE it has to do with children that is the whole point here.this HAS to be reported to the police you did the right thing. these poor children that are being abused emotionally and physically, we need to look out for these kids, i am so upset about this. i believe your friend is an innocent bystander its the other person on line that could be hurting children. don't feel bad for calling the police i am so proud of you for doing it!!!

Pat yourself on your back for doing the right thing.
But don't tell him. Take that information about you contacting the police with you to the grave.
Hopefully, you've saved some young kids from a very sick person and/or persons.
And you might want to keep a close eye on him if you have any siblings, especially young ones.
Birds of a feather flock together.

Was there a response back that your friend wrote? If not, then, your friend may be a angry with you. People always get lots of spam and random email from creeps having to do with sex. Tell him asap. You probably should have mentioned it to him first since it doesn't sound like you saw evidence of him doing anything wrong. Be ready for him to be angry for snooping and also for calling the police when he may not have been at fault of anything.

You did the right thing. Hopefully, your friend is just an innocent bystander so he shouldn't be upset that you called the police. Just tell him you didn't mean to see it, but you did.
