The front passenger door lock is broken so the pin will not pull up I can't open the door with the key. Will the car pass NJ inspection?? Anyone know if DMV checks the doors?

ps. I would of fixed the door myself if there was a way to swing it open at least one time. But because of that, I can't even get to the screws to take our the door panels off and access the inner assembly.

Thanks in advance.

It will not pass. Working doors are a safety issue. If there is a problem and you cant get out, this would be a bad thing.
You could call a tow truck or an auto club to see if they can get it open with a slim jim.

i assume the nj inspection is like the equilivilent to a mot test here in the uk - if so it depends what its based on and if its safety they will fail it as if it cannot be opened it means no1 can get out of the passengers side front (say in an emergency) - i cannot honestly say yes or no but can say if it was in the uk it would

heres a hint i use to get door panels off doors that will not open (you proberly will need a new door panel this way!) - wind down the window, using a prybar (or similar) carefully pry the top of the door panel up the full length of the door panel - it should come up enough so you can get it back to get your hand in, put your hand down to the door release lever and work it, and if successful the door should open

In most states (you do not say where you are located) the driver's door must open and close properly to pass inspection. In an emergency (such as a fire) you need to be able to exit the vehicle quickly, so this is considered a safety item!

I am not certain about NJ specifically but most likely no. I am certain that an inoperable door will not pass inspection in PA.

It won't pass in New Jersey. Their rule is pretty much "If the car has it, it has to work"
