..........how many points should a left winger have if he is making about $650,000 on a one year contract?

This stems from a story I read in the newspaper about Jan Hlavac.

Considering the League average is 4 points and the leader is 23 and Dallas' Niklas Hagman is at 15 points earning $675k and Detroits Matt Ellis has 4 points earning $475k probably ten points would be reasonable. Beyond that requires more mental calculus than one can put out on a Monday.

Well here in Habs land we have a right winger, Ryder, making roughly 4 times that and he has 10 points. So in theory 3 points for 650K would be more bang for the buck than Ryder has provided.

However the natives are getting restless and not to happy with Mr. Ryder so I would suggest that three is not enough.

In all honesty I guess it depends, you do not expect the same from a 4th line role player as you would from a young guy on the way up. How many points are enough, one more than he has??

Sorry for my Ryder bashing and not really answering your question- I am bored today and pretending to work. Much like what Ryder has been doing this season.

As many as he can get.

Well, it all depends. Are we talking about an old guy that's still got game or are we talking about a youngen trying to make a mark? It could be pretty different for both. But I would say somewhere around 10, depending on what he's there for.

I would expect 7 or so

That would be about right for a 20 point guy, although I think Hlavac is more than a 20 pt guy.

given that $650,000 is barely above the league minimum, anything more than a dozen would likely be considered good.

All depends.....has he had good seasons? Is he a rookie? Is he a big guy who is an enforcer? Is he a suppose to be a scorer?
