Retire for sure. Then think of the best way to help individual people in my family.
I would take a world cruise with my husband to see the world.
I know someone who's sister won millons in the lottery a few years back. Her sister didn't help her at all and this women has to work 3-4 jobs just to get by.That doesn't seem right to me.

1. I wouldn't tell anyone (not even my closest relatives)
2. I would tithe 15% of the winnings
3. I would invest 40% of the winnings
If there are enough funds left after doing the first two things...
4. I would pay off all of my debts
5. I would pay off all my mother's debt
6. I would buy my mother a townhouse (she probably won't want a big house since she lives alone)
7. I would pay off my sister's house
8. I would quit my job so that I can focus on completing my degree and then change careers

I'd probably put the money in several bank accounts and bonds... the first thing I'd do is book a trip to the North Pole, like a long cruise going to Iceland and Greenland and all those little islands by the Antarctic. Then I'd buy me a house!

I would set up funds for my mother in law and my mother so they could live comfortably and have help since it's hard for them to get around. I would also set up something for kids in the community to have a scholarship for things like karate, baseball, football, guitar, painting, drawing, dance lessons, whatever, if they wanted to give a try so they could see if that was something they had a talent in. When my kids were younger I didn't have the money for them to try stuff and it felt bad, I don't want others to do without if I can help them.

How much? If its just a million, my life really wouldn't change much accept I would invest in my retirement fund. If its an enormous amount....
Tithe anonymously (since the church probably wouldn't accept gambling winnings), pay off my parents debt and keep a home and bank account running for them so all they had to do was enjoy their lives, finish off the college funds for my kids and siblings kids, get a Ph.D. in historical studies and travel.

Mindful someone who won over £2 Million, lost it all, and locked up for awhile in jail, because a friend he trusted framed him by leaving drugs in his car. While in jail his friend disposed of all his assets. So the first thing I do will learn how to look after my new assets. Next, if I live long enough, I will spend about £100,000 to sample the joy of space travel.

Get a Nobel Peace Prize (you just have to know whose palm to grease) and sell it on eBay.
