The Bastille was a prison in Paris. It held many prisoners for various reasons.

It was stormed on July 14, which is considered the French Independence Day.

A group of revolutionaries attacked it, launching the national revolution. They killed some of the guards, some of the others switched sides. It led to a number of deaths for the military and civilians alike.

Also many believe it as the start of the revolution but it was really the pinnacle of the revolution up to that point and it was really a very public display of the discontent of the french people over the past couple of years leading to Bastille Day, 14th of july

The Bastile was the French political prison. Common and political prisoners in Paris were held there. To start the French Revolution, it was stormed by the French people, the prisoners freed.
