5 + ? = 9

2 * what will give a number to add to 5 to equal 9?

2*2= 4 +5 = 9

2x+5=9
subtract 5 from 9
divide 2x by 2 and divide 4 by 2
x=2

this is no college, some middle school stuff

2x+5=9
-5 -5
2x=4
/2 /2
x=2

subtract 5 from both sides
2x = 4
divide both sides by 2
x = 2

omg thats soo trouble-free!!! im in 6th grade in Illinois. the respond is 9 because of the fact i extra 'm all up includin all the x's and its 40 4 and then the final step is -35. 40 4 - 35 = 9! and your in college...
