It seems only one Democrat and six Republicans are sponsoring this Fair Tax bill. Why?

This is a great way to radify the 16th ammendment and I think this is fantastic. I wish they had this here in Canada. We have the Federal Income Tax, Canadian Pension Plan Tax, Employment Insurance Tax and two sales taxes.

This is a true traditional Conservative policy!

The current Fair Tax Bill (HR-25) has 68 Co-Sponsors in the House of Rep and 4 Co-Sponsors in the Senate. These elected politicians have listened to the voters in their local district and want to keep their jobs.

The average American is not aware of the Fair Tax. There is no discussions about the Fair Tax on American Idol, VH1, MTV, NFL football. NASCAR or Entertainment Tonight. When an individual learns about the Fair Tax and not from sound bites that critize the plan, an estimated 85% plus are in favor of the Fair Tax. These individuals are encouraged to contact their local Rep and Senator to let them know to support the Fair Tax or they will be opent to losing their position at the next election. The one Rep (from OK) was asked why he is a Co-Sponsor to the Fair Tax. He stated that prior to the election, everyone in his district demanded he support the Fair Tax. Secondly, when he thought about it, he realized that Nancy P. does not live in his district. He listened to the people in his district!

There are two major reasons politicians do not like the Fair Tax. The first reason is that they will lose their power and control. They will not be able to reward their friends and punish their opposition and do social engineering. The second reason is politicians LOVE hidden taxes. The more tax they can get you to pay without you realizing it, the less you will complain they are spending too much of your money! Businesses DO NOT PAY TAXES. They are merely a collection agency for the federal taxes. All taxes imposed on business (employer part of SS and Medicare, corporate taxes, excessive profits taxes on oil companies etc) are a "cost of doing business" and passed on to the consumer hidden in the price of the product or service. The Fair Tax lets everyone see exactly how much federal tax you are paying with every purchase of new goods and services. There is no tax on used goods.

The only way to get the politicians to support the Fair Tax is to let them know they will be fired (not re-elected) unless they do support the Fair Tax. There needs to be a strong supporter of the Fair Tax that will oppose them in the election. If there is no opposition, they (Charlie Rangel, Nancy P and others) will never support the Fair Tax.

How does getting rid of the personal income tax as in the 16th amendment have any relation to a consumption tax?
And have you ever seen a sales tax stay where it starts? I recall when Minnesota had no Sales tax. First it was just 3%. Now it is over 6%.
You also realize that the tax would be on top of other gas taxes. Wow, another 23% added to the cost of gas.
Taxes should be personal. They should hurt. They should make you say enough. A national sales tax, would not do that. The really rich won't care. The working poor won't care, they might make a profit from it. It is what is left of the middle class who will get killed.

Because this will NEVER get past the liberals.

They will claim that wealthier people owe a higher percentage of their income than poor people.

They believe it is the job of the government to take money from those who work hard and become wealthy and give it to those who do not, via the earned income tax credit.

Maybe because ti wouyld institute a higher tax rate on the folks with the lowest incomes. Most people do not want to pay a 35% federal sales tax. That is the rate required to replace the rvenue lost by the switch.

I think it is because most constituents are ignorant to the act. I am a supporter and have written to my congressmen to help to move it along. I have encouraged all of my friends to do the same.
