A fetus isn't a new child. Abortion isn't homicide. Being self based isn't a criminal offense nor ought to or no longer this is. What on the subject of the selfless act of no longer bringing a new child into the worldwide which you may not help? Or a new child so heavily disabled that it would advise financial wreck for the relatives and finally a drain to the tax payer, to no longer point out a quick, depressing, merciless and meaningless existence for a new child. So confident, that's unlucky that abortions take place by way of fact of selfishness or convenience - yet interior the tip you haven't any longer have been given any say interior the concern except it is your being pregnant, or the being pregnant of your minor new child.

Well, I know before it was legal, women used to do all sorts of things to abort and they would get very sick or even die from those things. So in that way, it's a protection for the female. The movie "If These Walls Could Talk" has some very good scenarios about why women would pursue an abortion. Two I remember is a family where they already have too many children and the mother doesn't feel that she can care for another one; and a scene where a widow has sex with her dead husband's brother in a fit of emotion - she gets pregnant. It's the 1940s and everyone is appalled.
Also, there are so many children now who are waiting on adoptive families. If no one had abortions, we would have orphanages overflowing.
Just as an aside (because this issue is inherently political) I think everyone opposed to abortion should adopt at least one child. :)

I'll assume absent incest also. The basic rationalization is that no one, no man, no government, no church, and no laws- have the right to govern what a woman does or does not do with her body of her own accord. Opinions are rampant, and although I'm not a supporter of abortion, I'm not Pro-life either. I think it IS a case-by-case basis and what would be traumatic for one person could be no big deal for another. Also, making it illegal would enable the rich to continue having safe abortions while the poor and middle class would just have to retunr to "back-alley" abortions. It cannot be stopped. That's just a fact. I know you didn't ask for all this, but abortion is a tricky question to bring up.

I think what you are getting at is the Constitutionality of abortion. I don't believe it is a "protected right". But then neither is driving a car. It should be regulated by each state. Did you know that South Carolina has outlawed tattoo shops? A girl can get an abortion but has to travel to another state to get her butt tattooed. Isn't it her body and her right? Why not a legal challenge by the ACLU before the Supreme Court?

Every person has a right to govern his or her own body and no one else's.
A woman may choose to terminate a pregnancy for any reason, some of which being the following:
1. Pregnancy is painful, and the woman does not want to go through it.
2. Children are expensive.
3. The would-be father of the child ran out.
4. The woman's loved ones would shun her for a pregnancy out of wedlock.
5. The woman does not want a child with her current lover.
Regardless of the individual reasons a woman may choose to abort, women's rights to our own bodies should never come into question.

That a woman is not ready to bear a child at that point in time.
The reasons can be financial, situational, or simply selfish - whatever the rationalization, the woman will have to live with that decision for the rest of her life.
And while I would hope that no woman would ever choose elective abortion, I fully support a womans right to be the one that makes that choice. Not the government, not fundimentalist christians, noone.

Irresponsibility! Just a matter of convenience.
If a woman is responsible she would not put herself in this position in the first place to have an abortion, period.
Helllooo! Pregnancy is preventable, by :
1. abstinance, (Isn't this a better way to control your own body?)
2. Implant in the arm
3. Tubal ligation
4. intruterine devices
5. birth control pills, ( they give them to 11 year olds don't they)
6. See your physician for the best method to control your own body!
No good reason for murdering an innocent one.

CRIME CRIME CRIME,
the most interesting thing I have ever come across is data showing that outlawed abortion causes a huge increase in crime rate. If we look at the the crime rate in this country, 18 years after roe v. wade we saw a huge decrease in violent crime. The same thing has been observed in 9 different countries and has gained a lot of attention from economists.

I don't think there is any rationalized reason for abortion. This coming from a woman who has 2 children and had a hystorectomy (not by choice) after my second child was born. I would give anything to be able to have another child. I sometimes get jealous of women that have 4 or 5 kids and are pregnant again and don't even want the baby. I can not afford to adopt or else I would have 10 kids by now!

I agree with Moody in that only preventable way of girl not getting pregnant is "Abstinence", BUT
1. With total abstinence will come severe PMS periods for women who must have sex.
2. Also try telling this to all the young girls, teenagers, and women of child rearing age that they are to only have sex for purposes of having children.
3. I could go on further , but it would not be appropriate for the category this question falls under.
