I was wondering if a vaginal ultrasound can detect a early pregnancy. The reason I would like one is because if I'am pregnant I'm high risk due to a P.E earlier this year. If I'am pregnant I think I'm only like 2 weeks or so. As anyone had one done before early?

A vaginal u/s can pick up more then a regular u/s in early pregnancy. With my first daughter 9 years ago they did one and could not find her at all even with the vaginal one though. It was just too early. With my 3rd child and now my 4th that have done transvaginal ones and found them both in the 4th week.

I assume you mean you're about 4 weeks pregnant (since you're not pregnant the first 2 weeks of pregnancy). A transvaginal ultrasound won't be able to see anything as early as 4 weeks. Six weeks may even be too soon. I had a transvaginal u/s at 7 weeks, 2 days and we saw the baby and the heartbeat at that time.

2wks from conception? this means you are about 4 menstrual wks pregnant. You must add 2wks to your conception date for accurate pregnancy dating. This is what docs go by and this is how to determine the length of pregnancy. When was your LMP? Yeah, you are way too early to see anything just yet. You might be able to see a small black dot inside the uterus around 5wks, but not 3wks.

You would have to wait until at least 5-6wks to see anything. I had a scan done at 5wks 4days and it was just a black dot the size of a grape with a small ring inside, which is the yolk sac.

2 weeks pregnant is the point of conception. 4 weeks pregnant is generally when you realize you're late for your period, about the time the ovum has implanted in the uterus.

They wont be able to see anything this early. 5 weeks is generally as early as they can tell, and even then its just a thickening of the uterus in a spot- usually not even the sac or fetal pole.

I have no idea why they're even bothering to try to find anything this early... thats literally like a needle in a haystack.

When I started my infertility testing the Dr. did three reg. ultra sounds and found nothing. I had a cyst rupture and the er did a vaginal which showed I most def. had PCOS. So to me the vaginal was way better than the reg. one.

my doctor told me you need to wait until at least 5 weeks, preferably 6, from your last period in order to be able to see anything on a vaginal ultrasound.
