in your opinion, is university of pittsburgh or william and mary better for the biological sciences?

The quality of a school for biological sciences is highly correlated with the overall quality of the school. Any highly ranked school will have a good biology program.
Both of these schools are very good public universities. Pitt is ranked #59 by US News -- while WIlliam & Mary is ranked #33.
If you are a Virginia resident, you should definitely choose William & Mary. If you are a Pennsylvania resident, then Pitt may be the better choice because of the savings in cost. If you are not a resident of either state, then I think William & Mary is a slightly better choice.
