you can take a ferry from SF to Vallejo. And then you should be able to take a bus up to Napa. It is really hard to get around the Napa Valley with out a car. The valley itself is 30miles long and about 5 miles wide.

Normally March is very wet and rainy. So bring jackets and rain gear.

There are local buses in Napa. but they don't usually operate on sundays. check out 511.org website. It will have all the necessary public transit info for the Bay Area. The napa county bus system is called The VINE. And you would need to take the Vallejo Baylink ferry. And keep in mind last ferry back to SF is at 6:00pm.

It would be less hassle to rent a car or try to find a wine tour company out of the city and let them do all the driving for you. Check with the concierge of your hotel.

seriously... rent a car (through hotwire, muy inexpensive). It will be much cheaper than going on a wine country tour. And it is much more fun.

Renting a car is about $30 a day. And you have all the freedom to go to any of the wineries out there. And the drive is beautiful.

Don't do public transportation to Napa - its just an exercise in futility.

You could catch the Vallejo Baylink ferry at the Ferry Building (hop on BART to the Embarcadero exit), then take Vine 10 bus into Napa.

Several tour companies operate wine tours. Go to Fisherman's Wharf and ask them at the ticket windows for more information.
