I have a dell inspiron 6000 laptop and recently my wireless connection doesnt work anymore. My friend looked at my laptop and said my Wifi isn't on thats why. But he tried to turn it on and it doesn't tured on. He did the whole Fn and F2 thing but that did not work. He then tried to download drivers online using my laptop with WIRED connection and thought he found the solution.

However, it still does not work. Does anyone know how I can fix this problem? My router is perfect because my laptop does not even detect any wireless connections at all. Usulaly there is around 8 around my home so the router is definitely nnot the problem. My friend even connected to my wireless router that day using his ITouch.

What can i do?

Look on the side of the laptop. There is a switch there that turns the wifi on and off. Turn it on and you should be good to go.

If you are sure your wireless is ON then you can try this as your next step.

In Windows XP you can right click "My Computer", select "Manage", then "Device Manager"

Goto "Network Adapters" and expand.

Find the network adapter that belongs to your wireless and select.

Hit the DELETE button on the keyboard. This obviously will delete your wireless network adapter.

Goto the menu on top and click "Action", select "scan for hardware changes"

This will find your adapter and reinstall it including your network configuration connection.

Do a scan for wireless devices and if your wireless has security configured you will have to enter the key again.

What you have done is to remove your wireless adapter and network configuration completely and reinstall it. Sometimes this network configuration gets corrupted. This is a way to fix it. Now since it is new you have to enter the wep / wap keys again every time you perform these steps.

If you are not able to see your wireless router still, try changing channels, getting rid of wireless telephones in the 2.4 ghz band or any other device that does like microwave, baby monitors, wireless security cameras.

Hope this helps.

The same thing happened to me today with my HP laptop. Drove me crackers!

Have you been into Device manager and checked the network adapters? After I installed the new driver I had 2 when I checked so I disabled the old one and made sure that the new one was enabled. All working now :)

Since your friend has already tried to reinstall the network card, most likely your wireless network card went bad. If your Dell is under warranty, you can get the wireless card fixed. Otherwise, you will need to pay for the new hardware and installation.
