It's not a particularly competitive or prestigious school. The average accepted student's SAT score is about 400 in each section, quite a bit below that of the average test taker.

Cheyney University is not in Philadelphia. It is in Cheyney, PA.

It is a HBCU. Very few HBCUs are selective or known for their academics. What they are known for is providing an atmosphere where certain students can grow.

US News ranks it as "Least Selective" and puts it as a fourth tier regional university. To be honest -- you can't get any lower than that.

Less than half of the faculty have PhDs and only a little more than half the student body returns for the sophomore year.

I suspect that anyone who can get into Cheyney University can also get into a better school.
