Yes, I do feel that way, often more recently.

I have perfect pitch, which is suspected to be a genetic, musical trait. I started playing piano at age five.

I spent the first two years of college without any direction whatsoever wondering what I was truly passionate about, or "meant" to do and came up with no answers. I don't know if I let the idea of "do what's practical" rule my way of thinking. People say "follow your heart" without asking if it's financially possible, and whether you can overcome your own personal fear and doubt..

I know that I'd be at my best doing music, maybe writing music, and the thought of that drives me crazy and scared at the same time, and like you said, also makes me feel empty from time to time. It's also due to the fact that I feel like people are hedged into thinking that their abilities skew toward the more logical, scientific end of the spectrum. Am I supposed to be good at math? Am I just thinking too "impractically?"

I'm not sure if it's about being born to do something. It's about whether you're following what your strengths truly are and what makes you happiest. If you're not honest about how unhappy you are, it'll only make you even more unsure and empty.

Awesome question my friend. It comes straight from one school of thought that we are born with destinies and our lives just feel empty if we don't fulfill that mission.

I don't feel like I have a purpose, but I'm still quite young. Maybe we'll figure out our jobs once we grow up.
