I don't get it either. I have nothing against the guy other than the fact that he plays on a team I dislike. I've never really cared what these guys get paid.

Professional athletes are overpaid - don't you really think that Cops and firefighters and front line soldiers should be paid more than a person who can hit a baseball?!
Having said that, The problem goes to the fact that every time an athlete drives up the salary range - more follow. Next year's salary mid-range will be higher because of the deal ARod drove this year. In addition to that, the owners don't really seem to care - as long as they get people in the seats.
Sooner or later, the average American will no longer be able to attend the Great American Past time - due to the high ticket prices. Then something will have to change. . . but until that time we complain because we can - - but we keep coming out.
PS - how do you know that European fans don't complain about Soccer players salaries? Tiger Woods plays an elitist sport with high earning or loss potential - all on him. But I agree - they are all overpaid.

1st there is not any way that baseball might close down for 2 years. That pronounced i would not be prepared to bypass 2 years w/o baseball and with the debt provider the Yanks, Mets and another communities are figuring out to purchase the hot ball parks i do no longer think of the proprietors may well be up for this the two, That being pronounced as a Yankee fan i admit there desires to be a cap yet there additionally must be a minimum. i'm sick of followers bitching with regard to the Yanks payroll while their team is getting extra earnings gross revenues sharing than they spend on the entire payroll This desires to be addressed. interior the subsequent CBA they ought to set the luxurious tax threshold to approximately $150mil and then tell the golf equipment that in case you payroll for the premiere league gamers isn't a minimum of $seventy 5 mil you get 0 gross revenues sharing $. perhaps then you definitely chilly get the union to conform to rasing the lux tax % severe adequate to shrink the Yanks payroll. you will by no ability get a cap even with the undeniable fact that

You are right, all athletes are overpaid. But why people get mad is because high salaries like Arod ruins the rest of baseball and this is fact whether anybody wants to admit it or not. Yankee fans are the first ones to say people are "jealous". Well since my Indians team smashed the Yankees this year-I'd say no I'm not. I don't get "Jealous" of sports teams. What is being ruined though is any baseball equality when it comes to other teams. Yankee fans should sit in other fans shoes. When teams like NYY pay players and DRIVE UP PAYROLLS to 30 million dollars-it hurts other teams chances of sigining thier own players to what are still very lucrative contracts. This is why teams cannot sign their own home grown players-richer teams drive up the salaries. Even in Cleveland I have seen it alot. Look at the Twins situation in Santana-it's a shame for them they have zero chance of signing him. This ismthe fault of the owners-including the Twins. If the sport was capped and these enormous payrolls were not allowed-you would be talking about teams like Kansas City, Toronto, Cincinatti, Cleveland, Tampa Bay alot more then the typical "Yankees/Redsox". IT IS BAD for baseball that KC Royals and D-Rays and teams like that WILL NEVER be able to compete. So yeah, why shouldn't fans be pissed at these players salaries? It is ruining baseabll. This si whay the NFL is more popular-teams have an even playing field. And Tiger Woods doesn't play in a team sport for a city that has to worry about resigining him. Side note*** This girl who posted above me is an idiot-jealous of his looks...LOL and his money. Most of these posts, not all, but mosts seem to be written by kids who know nothing about "real world reality". I married a beautiful woman and I pull good cash-I'm blessed for what I have little girl. Not everyone wants to be Arod. Sorry to burst your fantasy bubble.

I didn't see list, but I will tell you why Alex Rodriguez is different from those other guys. Tiger Woods and Nascar drivers may make more per year than A-Rod. BUT, they are in sports focused solely on the individual. In baseball, there is an entire team 20-25 guys that work collectively toward winning. When a player makes more money that a majority of the team, it stands out. A-Rod only cares about himself. That's why he gets singled out the way he does. Because the rest of the team has to revolve around his salary. That's why it didn't work in Seattle or Texas. It works in New York because they have unlimited funds.

Yeah, I occasionally b*tch about all the salaries but to be honest, it's pretty hypocritical. I mean, we support this, literally and figuratively, by watching the games, going to the games, wearing the clothes, etc.
I don't know why people complain so much about A-Rod...if money was thrown at you, wouldn't you take it? Blame the teams for these bloated salaries.

Michael Jordan made more money than A-Rod last year and he is retired. Elvis Presley made more and he is dead. Too many people get carried away with the numbers without considering the revenue dollars he brings to the team. A-Rod is being compensated according to his value to the team just like all of us are being compensated according to the value we bring to our employer.

Well said!
Everyone's just jealous because not only do they not make the millions A-Rod makes, but they're not and probably will never be as gorgeous or athletic as he is!
Sorry folks, just my opinion but I honestly have not seen a better looking man!

It doesn't really bother to much that Arod makes more in a year then I probably will my whole life. Every single person that complains about knows that if they were offered that much money, they would take it in a heartbeat. If people are willing to pay him that much, why shouldn't he take advantage of it?

As DJS said, his salary and those like him, drive ticket prices higher and higher. We aren't getting exponential raises so we have to keep moving to cheaper and cheaper seats or go to less games per year or not go at all. While he is getting richer, I am getting to see less games.
Tiger Woods makes his money by winning tournaments. His is 100% performance based (all his endorsement money goes to charity, respectable I must say) as are NASCAR guys. And soccer, does anyone watch it in the US?
Baseball fans bemoan high salaries because we pay for it. Football and Basketball fans complain less because of salary caps keeping contracts from going through the roof.
