One social worker said I have a history of violence for defending myself when 2 people attacked me. I kicked them in self-defense, so she said I have a history of violence, & I'm a violent person. I only fight BACK when someone attacks me 1st. I used to take Tae Kwon Do karate lessons for self-defense training & discipline.

No I was NOT convicted for assault. I have a social worker because I see a psychiatrist.

***I see a social worker because that's the clinic policy @ our mental health clinic. Every patient has a SW there.

I see some people do not know how some mental health clinics work. I worked at one for a short time; they changed the term from social worker to case manager but it was the same - every patient was assigned one. These were not all people with severe problems. The case manager was there in case there were insurance issues (some insurance comapnies limit the number of therapist visits unless you have some one to speak in medical jargon to them) a few of the people were disabled and needed somene to intervene with the state agencies in order to help them get rides to appts, etc. Many times in therapy a patient will mention other problem they are having because of their illness - the therapist can refer that to the case manager who may be able to help.

One example is somene who is deathly afraid of heights. A social worker / case manager can get in contact with someone in real estate or rental property who will alert the socia worker when bottom floor units become available.

SOCIAL WORKERS DO MANY THINGS.

To get back to your question - no you do NOT have a history of violence.

Technically, yes. What's important is to know why you have a social worker saying this about you. Social workers don't usually go into someone's history without a reason.

If your "history" is a single event of self defense, then I'm sure the social worker will take that into consideration.

Update: I see where you've explained that you have a social worker because you see a psychiatrist. I'm sorry, but people who see a psychiatrist on their own account do NOT have social workers. Not unless the psychiatrist has a serious concern about your safety to yourself or the safety of others.

You're going to need to explain more about why you've been assigned a social worker.

Update 2: Why are you being seeing a psychiatrist? There's nothing wrong with it, but this is a highly relevant piece of information. Any mental health clinic that requires a social worker for every patient is not dealing in people who have minor issues. You issue must be serious enough that a social worker is taking a level of interest that includes a discussion of your "history of violence" (true or not).

The system is corrupt in that people can no longer say or do anything that might incite any type of feeling or thought that is an any way negative. You can't express yourself and you certainly can't lay down the law when neccessary. Even if you hit someone one time out of extreme anger, I don't believe you have a history of violence. A violent person is someone who never has control over their reactions and uses violence as a means to solve problems.

If you have been convicted for assault you have a history of violence.

Why are you involved with a social worker, were you defending yourself against your kids?

You have a history of violence because you have put yourself in unsavory circumstances on a regular basis and you have put your hands on another person.

Find new friends and buds to hang out with....ones who don't perpetuate violence.

Depends. Woman hitting a man? No. But a man hitting a woman? Yes.

I hate double standards.
