try NEVER
that stuff is so toxic,,,,it kills everything and stays in the soil forever killing ...try weeding it by hand after soaking overnight....then put down layers of newspaper put plenty down and throw dirt on top of the newspaper to cover it up..then burrow holes to put your flowers in ...make sure the newspaper is all around the base of the plant....this keeps the weeds from comming up for a year or two depending on how much paper you use...and its biodegradable...so your not contanimating the soil and lasts a long time and is cheap

If you use "roundup", spray it directly on the vegetation and u can use the bed 24 hours later. the weeds may not be dead that quickly, though. You want to use a systemic like roundup, because they soak into the living tissue of the target plant, like through the leaves ... and kill the plant from the inside out.
that keeps poison from being in the soil. the over-spray is innocuous after 24 hours, so if you spray it on the plant and some gets on the ground, it becomes inactive over a 24 hour period of time and u don't have to worry about it killing plants u put into the bed later.
the only factor that slows u down is that it takes a little while to actually kill the weed. it is dependent on the time of year and the plants growing cycle. these types of poisons work through the plants circulatory systems and if the plant is not growing, say in late summers heat and dry conditions, then the poison cannot move through the plants system and kill it.
u can use the bed without worrying about restarting the plants u wanted to kill, as soon as the plants u spray show signs of wilting
there are many homemade and safe sprays that can be used even in organic gardening situations. I make my own manure tea for fertilizing organic veggies. simply soaking a pourous bag filled w/ manure in water and then diluting the "tea" to a weak tea color and watering with it. the full strength version is an absolute wonderful "poisen" that actually increases microbial growth in the soil and enhances it like little else. commercial strength vinegar is great. Both of these, if sprayed on the growing plant, will solve u r problems and will not harm the soil at all. the vinegar will kill within an hour, usually.

Depends on the weedkiller you use, and which weeds you want kill. If you use on that only works on the leaves, you should be able to plant within 3 days. If you use one of the ones that word in the soil, it can be 6 months before you can plant a flower bed. The best thing to do is to go to your local nursery and tell them the type of weeds that you want to kill, and what type of flowers you want to plant. They will help you with everything.
