These substances are physically addictive to many people. If you can stay away from sugars and refined carbs for 5 days by white-knuckling it, the cravings will go away. I did it about 6 years ago or so, and haven't touched them since. I replaced them with stone ground whole wheat bread and pasta, rye, brown rice, sweet potatoes instead of white, etc. To learn more, try reading Sugarbusters (Good educational materials, although I hated the diet. I just followed the directions on what I could and could not eat). Also helpful for meal planning and good recipes is the South Beach Diet, phases 1 and 2.

I love bread and potatoes too and I have low blood sugar
but carbos turn into sugars. the cravings may be because of low blood sugar, so you should probably have your blood sugar level checked by your Dr.
things you could try:
try to eat your meals around the same time every day, if your blood sugar level drops too quickly, it could make you crave carbos.( personally, I get very jittery when I skip meals)
I find that portioning more veggys and meat on my plate than starch helps fill you up.
try substituting the white stuff for whole grain. trade in the white rice for brown rice and try whole grain bread and pasta.
I hope this helps

The same reason some people are obsessed with chocolate or fried foods, It's just what you like, try switching to whole wheat bread and pasta and brown or wild rice, they have less starch and calories. Much healthier for you.
Good luck.

I'm with you, girl! I'm a carboholic too. I've tried switching to whole grain breads and pasta and brown rice. At least it's better than the white refined stuff.

If you want to control this, you could try taking chromium tablets.
It will control your cravings, you can still eat those foods... but you'll just feel like you've had enough of them after a tiny amount. However It also controls sugar cravings as well as starch.

I am too.... I think it is because I crave the energy it gives me... Meat and veggies don't give me much energy...
I also found out I'm anemic....which is why I crave the carbs, coffee and energy drinks...
Are you anemic too? Find out if you can....Lots of women are because of the monthly cycles.... Just a thought....
It's always good to check out all the different reasons you could be feeling this way...ok... good luck.
