This is pretty typical. My office didn't give me a formal doctor's visit until 10 weeks. However, they DID give me a consultation with a nurse (as soon as I called) so I could get info on what to do, what not to do, etc. and have any questions answered. That was very reassuring, and I think important for your emotional health as a new mommy to know you have support from the outset. I think more doctors' offices should do this, but I guess it's not completely essential.

I've never heard of that. They usually want to see you right when you find out your pregnant and then at 12 weeks they give you and ultrasound. I would call another doctor to see what they have to say but yes I do think that is weird.

I went in as soon as I had a positive test, but they didnt do anything. They too reschedualed me for an actual Prenatal at twelve weeks. I think that is standard unless there is reason for concern or a history of problems. Congrats!!

Yes, it's normal. As sad and as harsh as this may sound, a lot of doctor's offices want to "weed out" chemical pregnancies and early miscarriages before they start seeing a pregnant patient.

Yup...there isnt anything they can do before 8-10 weeks...most doctors dont want to see you before then.
If you are still pregnant at your first apt, they will do a scan to make sure baby is in the uterus, not in a tube and will probably do some blood work, etc...maybe a pap smear.
Good luck...patience!!

I used to work in a OB office and the docs there didn't schedule patients for their first appt until 12 weeks unless there were complications.

my first ob visit was at 12 weeks, so that is normal. They told me if I had problems before then to call. I had a blood test to confirm pregnancy at my general practioners office prior to the ob appointment.

while you're actually not having any issues with your being pregnant then your well being practitioner won't see you a week, yet another week extraordinarily in case you have no longer shown indications of dilating or effacing. i would not worry with regard to the nurse. they're surprisingly knowledgeable and extremely experienced. a lot of them (a minimum of the female ones -- LOL) are mom's too and can answer your questions from the two journey and guidance.
