x² - 2x - 24 = 0
(x - 6) (x + 4) = 0
x = 6 , x = - 4
OPTION A

You just need to factor the equation, (quadratic formula is just complicating the problem...)

x^2 -2x - 24 = 0

(x+4)(x-6)=0
x=-4, 6

answer a

2007-12-10 06:52:59 · answer #2 · answered by raph s 2 · 1 0

X^2 - 2x - 24 = 0
x^2 - 6x + 4x - 24 = 0
x(x - 6) + 4 (x - 6) = 0
(x-6) (x+4) = 0
So either x-6 = 0 or x+4 = 0
So either x = 6 or x = -4

So answer is A

Hope that helps

14 + 12 + 5 = 31 so 2 pupils are donning the two a) 14+12-2 = 24 b) 14-2 = 12 c) 12-2 = 10 Please be conscious that alot of individuals will answer 26 for the 1st question, although that's incorrect: 29 - 5 = 24 (minus of individuals who arent donning purple OR blue 14+12 = 26 there is 26 blue and purple colorations yet in user-friendly terms 24 pupils this implies 2 people ought to be donning the two colorations as I basically mentioned there is in user-friendly terms 24 people so what number purple and blue = 24 purple no longer blue = purple people much less the individuals who donning the two blue no longer purple = blue people much less the individuals who donning the two

You already got the answer, but I think if you can solve quadratic equations at age 13 you are doing well, it is not too easy a question for your age.

x^2 - 2x - 24 = 0

factor to (x + 4)(x - 6) = 0

if x+4 = 0, then x = -4
if x - 6 = 0, then x = 6

ans. --> B
