Well, I am not sure that the source of this quality is as amazing as the quality itself, but here is what I see going on.
In America, we seem to think that we have to make every child a "winner." All of the children have to be told that they are special, that they can do anything they want to do, that even if you lose the game you still win a prize, etc. It's kind of sickening in a way. It is almost as though we are encouraging the children who truly are standouts (whether academically, physically, or some other way) to "dumb down" their talents so that their peers don't feel bad when they aren't as smart, or as good at sports, or whatever.
HOWEVER, as terrible as it is that even the most mediocre a child is swiftly becoming the new "standard" to meet, at the same time, we are (as you say) aquiring an amazing ability. So many children who may not actually have any special gift for creating, acting, playing sports, acheiving high grades, etc. are believing more and more what they are being told: You are special! You can do anything you want to! Suddenly, this self-confidence is realized and the "C" student becomes the "A/B" student; the bench sitter becomes the solid field player, and so on and so forth.
Now don't get me wrong, there are still plenty of children who really do struggle. But it just seems that despite the fact that this movement started as a way to make sure no ones toes were stepped on, so to speak, it truly is producing a resiliency in our children that is carrying through to their adult lives.

America was built on those early settlers of people who wanted better for themselves and their children. The freedom to choose their own religion and occupations. That is who started America.
Our ancestors fought both good and bad wars, disease and environmental conditions. Those things existed everywhere in the world and still do. But we had and had stories of what our first ancestors went through and how at the end of the day no amount of work or adversity is too much to go through for those you love.
Half of my family has been here since the Mayflower, the other half came in the early 1900's, some were indentered servants and they all worked hard to make the next generation better. By giving us the roots to our family and the tools that we need to succeed in life, both personally and professionally.
All of these things can exist everywhere and I am sure that they do.
I for one, am American, Native Indian from Canada, English, French Canadian and Italian. We celebrate the holidays with touches of all of our biological ancestory but in our daily lives we are American. Striving for that American dream. The ability to work an honest job, pay our bills and save enough to own our own home and take ourselves to the doctor when sick or injured. And like it or not, pay taxes so the less fortunate or illegal aliens have the same benifits that we do. Taxes help us as much as hurt us, a price we gladly pay to be an american.
Just like everyone else, we just have the freedom to do so without being jailed or worse like in some other countries.
Maybe that is why we are proud to be Americans.

I'm not American either but I have lived in the US, Canada and Mexico. The difference is in the culture and their upbringing. Americans are raised to have goals, try hard, and never give up. If you don't believe me, just watch any American movie.
Freedom, as someone mentioned, actually allows Americans to reach their goals.
I agree with you it's truly admirable. But as you can see, some of them take this for granted.

Easy you have some ideas and add a few more from others , stir in a lot of different people, add some gender, a dash of color, a couple scoops of religion , a splash of dialect, whisk in two hands full of love and politeness, don't forget the crushed intolerance, a teaspoon of holidays. Bring that to a hard boil then allow to simmer over a low heat, makes ample servings and lots of Fun to watch. PS add a sprig of mistletoe to garnish.

We're selfish, and that does amazing things for a persons resilience. I know that's really rude of me to say about my own people, but when you're self centered you do anything you can to get what you want.
I think we got this way by having so much given to us after we got settled. I mean look at us, we're a wealthy nation..considering...so what can you do? We're rotten.

Our social shape in simple terms has a tendency to sell countless "choose"... that's in lots of cases very motivating, exceptionally whilst capitalism makes the "choose" obtainable. inspite of the undeniable fact that, there additionally are incredibly some lazy fat-asses right here that take society with no attention...
