and then take control over the entire country via elections?? With the residents of the occupied territories and the Arab Israelis they could take majority control. What is missing from this theory??

Because the Israelis themselves would not accept this. When Israel was founded in 1948, a lot of the Arabs in the area moved out, not wanting to be part of a Jewish state. Since then, many Israelis have been in favor of denying what's called the "right of return," that is, the right of Arabs who left in 1947, or their descendents, to return to what is now Israel. The Israelis want to maintain the country as a Jewish state, and have no intention of allowing Arabs to become the majority.

the land doesn't belong to Israel, thats the main issue
