Only those dukes,earls,and so on,who've inherited a title that comes with an estate get land,and income. Being made a noble today just gets you a title.

I got only a Title the Land has been taken over by the British gov. so all I was able to inherit was a title

Old english defintion of he word LORD, meant keeper of the loaf which basically meant the man of the house. So in biblical times (ie old english) most men would be lords. But since then i assume royalty wanted more power in their lands and took away the right to call yourself a lord.
perhaps one other reason America rebelled?
