Re-gifting means to pass along something that you had no use for. (Like a sweater you didn't like).
You have, instead, updated a family heirloom, to make it usable. In the original form, the beads were just sitting in the jewelry box, NOW, you have made it possible for your mom to WEAR and SHARE her memories.
What a fantastic idea! If you have a photo of your grandmother wearing the original piece of jewelry, that would be perfect -- but any photo of her (or of them, or of you all three together) would make this even more special.
A family member of mine took apart a pearl necklace she had inherited, and put a few beads on a strand for each of her daughters. The daughters were so pleased to be able to share the memory of their grandmother. And, each had thought the original strand was too old-lady and valuable to 'just wear' -- so they found the smaller necklaces perfect.

I don't think it was bad at all. I think it is a lovely, creative idea, a Memory of her Mother and now her daughter
I am sure your Mother will love it!
You really don't need the Picture, or, the Poem, but, if it were me,I would do both. You should put a card with your present, so, you have write something anyway. It mind-as-well be a Poem!
I'm sure if you can restring Pearls, you can write a Poem.
PS - WRAP WITH LOVE! IT SHOWS!
Have a very "MERRY CHRISTMAS!"

No, I wouldn't call it re-gifting since you are taking it and adding it to something else. I think it sounds like a nice idea. I would however, make sure that your mother isn't going to have a heart attack when she sees that her mothers' beads have been taken apart.

I think that is an amazing gift! If you would like to include a picture of your Grandmother it wouldn't hurt.

And what exactly is wrong with re-gifting? You say it like its a bad thing? And by the way, no that is not re-gifting. Re-gifting is a cop out, whereas you are enduring additional effort.

I wouldn't consider that re-gifting. I think that would be a great gift! And adding a poem or picture would be great too
