While your monitor is capable of displaying many different resolutions, your video card may not be. If 1440x900 is not available, then your video card is able to send video in those dimensions.

Check the web site of the manufacturer of the video card to see if they may have an undated driver that allows that resolution. Otherwise, you can not do it.

If you can't select it, you don't have the right drivers installed.

Install the drivers for your graphics card and the acceptable resolutions should appear. In some cases, there will be choices that won't work with a particular monitor.
