I appreciate & love his music. He has a way of crafting songs that EVERYONE feels like that "get" & that is a gift. But let's face it the guy was totally selfish. He treated the media like shi*t & always had this attitude like he was better then everyone else. During his first few years, the press had no idea what to ask him. They didn't have a clue as to what he was about. This was before rock journalism, before the idea that an artist could 'evolve' was even imagined. So, they would ask him dumb-arsed, nowhere questions like "why do you sing"? or "don't you think your earlier records are better." The press at the time were dullards when it came to interviewing musicians, because at the time, the vocabulary for rock journalism hadn't been worked out. Also, very few journalists assigned to interview him were Bob's age - most of them were in their 40s, while Bob was in his early to mid 20s. There was a huge misunderstanding of how to talk to Dylan, what to ask him. So, Dylan spent a lot of time avoiding answers for fear of how they'd be interpreted. It's understandable in this context - he was being vague for self-defence. And later, he'd withdraw because everyone expected him to be a political leader, which he never was. Even his fans didn't get him!

Dylan was most popular during a time that our country was in great turmoil. His mysterious ways and enlightened lyrics lead many to think he had the answers they were looking for. At first it must have been amusing, but eventually annoying that people were coming to him expecting constant great pearls of wisdom. The Moody Blues experienced much the same thing, but dealt with it by writing the song "I'm Just a Singer in a Rock n Roll Band".

he didn't want to media attention. have you ever sat down and watched any Bbb Dylan interviews? he obviously did not wish to be at any single one. he looks bored and irate. would you want all of that attention non-stop 24 hours a day? he took it for what it was worth and did what he did with it. the way he reacted to the mass media or how it projected him shouldn't fall into whether or not you admire someone. are you a musician?i am. you NEED to have "your the greatest" attitude to get anywhere. you have to put all of your passion into your material or else you'll just suck your whole life.
