I was just wondering if mp3 and mpeg files are the same. Because when I import them to itunes they show up as being mpeg when they are mp3 files.

An .mp3 is the audio layer of a .mpeg file. Mp3 stands for MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3.

mpeg i believe is for video files mp3 is for music files
