I live in the state of colorado and people keep parking in front of my house (I need the space). Is it actually "my" space or is it public parking?

Anyone can park on a street that is owned by the city, if not expressly prohibited by law. It is not your space!

... it's not YOUR space because your "property line" ends before it hits the street. It's a public parking zone and anyone can park there... you have no exclusivity rights to the street in front of your house.

Although you can get a special ordinance to make that space a "special" zone if you're handicapped and turn that into a blue-zone...

I also know some gals who went out & re-painted their curb red so people wouldn't park there... when they got tickets for parking there themselves they simply cited the fact that it's not zoned by the city as a "red-zone" and it was simply a red-painted curb and those tickets were dismissed. (It's a pain in the butt to have to fight all those tickets but they always had parking spot.) - and, of course, they claimed they had no idea how the curb got painted red

Unless there is something in your deed indication you have a legal right to a parking space or a drive easement, it's a public street with public parking.

Check with zoning to be sure

I think, in terms of the law, the land refers to the area the house is on, and any roadways are owned by the council or state depending on where you are, so from that perspective, parking there is not illegel and the eyes of the law, HOWEVER, a person does have a right to gain ACCESS to their own private property, so from that point of view, you have a case.

I live in Colorado too and I think it's perfectly legal, unless otherwise posted. My neighbor always feels like she has to park infront of my house, it's irritating cause she seems to be getting closer and closer to my lawn each time too. In any case, I would advise you to talk to your neighbor or whoever about it, even though it is considered "public parking."

You don't own the street, it's public parking! I'd like to get rid of the jerks parking in front of my house for the idiot kid across the street, but nothing I can do about it! they leave bottles & trash in my yard!

Nope. Public parking. You don't own the road in front of your house.

The biggest variations in local ordinances are how close one can park to either side of your driveway, and how long they can leave the vehicle. Some places, you just have to just leave clearance for the driveway, others, you have to leave as much as 12' between your vehicle and either driveway.

It's a public street, so you have no real recourse. I'd maybe dump some glass or thumbtacks in the area after you nicely ask people to leave you a space.

Also, maybe go to city hall with this and have them designate it as resident only parking, and issue stickers for residents.

Public street, public parking. If you are in an apartment complex or subdivision with assigned parking, you have a valid complaint. Also, if they are blocking your driveway. Otherwise, you are out of luck.

Hi when there is a car WAY, which you are going to your own garage, or house, then it is not legal. Bute when there is nothing and you dont marked there something like that "dont parking" "keep distance" then this is possible and legal to park.
