I think that both teachers and parents should try to teach morals .... It is really difficult and needs definitely collaboration...

Schools do teach these in a very limited way. Since kindergarten, your *** will be busted for stealing, cussing, assault and sexual abuse. Of course, religion is a bit of a shortcut or simple way to teaching morals because very often a set of morals is embroidered into the religion (five pillars of Islam, ten commandments, etc) but not everyone wishes to send their children to a religious school, for one reason or another. However the classroom environment is very limited. A teacher lecturing to a group of twenty six-year-olds would never be able to replace the one-on-one experience of a parent to child lesson. A school would only personally tell someone the rules of society the instant they are caught breaking them. But we all know a school can't catch everything, and when children see they can bend the rules, they always want to see how far. This is an excellent question, and it's a real grey-area to me. I don't believe a single school would be able to replace what a good parent could teach, but at the same time I don't believe that all parents are willing to provide what is required of them.

Schools should go about business in a moral fashion with the teachers doing their jobs likewise. Teaching morals is ultimately up to parents. Schools have their hands full just getting the curriculum across to the students. Too many parents seem to use schools as parental surrogates.

Schools should definitely teach morals. Ever since it became illegal to talk about God in schools everything has gone down hill because the 10 commandments aren't being followed or enforced. I understand them not wanting to offend anyone because they aren't in the same religion. That's fine, but you need to teach morals so children don't grow up to break the laws. I would start with a slight dress code that just says that you can't wear any T-shirts with messages, no baggy pants, and the body must be reasonably covered so it doesn't look like they are coming to school in their underwear or pajamas.

I think schools should teach morals, as a lot of parents don't seem to be doing the job.

That's a very good question, unfortunately even parents have little to no morals. Who then do we get to teach the parents. Maybe once the schools teach the children then the kids can teach mommy and daddy.

Naturally.....childhood is the phase of a child's life where all sorts of things can be taught to them ...their grasping power is high and they can learn quickly ....so its necessary to teach them all those morals valuies and yes academics is also the essential part....a child is send to a school to study accordingly and then for an individual to grow up as a whole apart from studies its necessary to have values inbibed ....well yes schools must teach morals too!!!

I've got news for you! The schools DO "teach morals". In the case of the PUBLIC schools (more accurately called GOVERNMENT schools!), it is the "morality" of HUMANISM!
The fact that evolution (no Creator/responsible to NO ONE but self), psychology (man as God/self-centeredness), and sex education (self gratification without discipline) are ALL pushed so heavily there is PROOF that the religion of HUMANISM is being proclaimed in the schools everywhere!
This is why the school system in America is FAILING miserably! Kids will either be taught GOD'S word, or MAN'S philosophy!!! There is NO "neutral" on this! The problem with the Government schools is that they INDOCTRINATE rather than EDUCATE! That's why it's SO HYPOCRITICAL for these "educated fools" that call themselves "Administrators" and "Teachers" to claim that the schools are "no place for religion and morals"! WHO ARE THEY TRYING TO FOOL?
How true are the words of the Apostle Paul in Romans 1:22- "Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools". This is why I believe the "public schools" are NO place for anyone's child to be "taught"! Parents need to WAKE UP and GET REAL!!! It is still THEIR responsibility to make sure that their children are PROPERLY educated! And a TRUE education is based on GOD'S WORD (the Bible!). "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction." (Proverbs 1:7)

I think the brunt of the responsibility is on the parents, however, since the kids spend much of their time in school I don't see why some things can't be taught in the schools.
If daycares can help us potty train children why not allow the schools help with some morals. But there should be communication betweeen the schools and parents so we all know what's going on and/or being taught..

YES! With the way things are going in the school system today
its apparent that schools should start teaching morals
and manners, being that so many parents today seem to be lacking.
