I own a 99 toyota Solera, the engine light came on about one mile from my house, when I got home I heard gurgling noises coming from under the hood. There was no water or coolant on the ground but the repair shop is telling me the radiator is leaking and I need a new radiator. Could it be something else?

If radiator is leaking. It cannot be anything else. If you go to doctor, and he tells you your arm is broken are going to see if it is really your leg that is broken? Why would you think it is something else? Do you not trust your mechanic? If not take it some other place.

Head gaskets are put in incorrect for all time. in spite of the fact that it ought to be a cracked block the place the crack in basic terms opens up while heat. in basic terms leave the thermostat out until you hit upon the concern. between the reward of it is you will have the flexibility to make certain the water circulating. electric powered water pumps have been between the dumbest ideas ever and in no way ought to have been on engines. Get 2 temperature strips made for the objective and placed them on the two radiator hoses. that permit you to comprehend if the radiator is doing that is pastime. and don't use money as an excuse to change that aluminum piece of crap with a solid copper radiator. that is going to value you so lots greater money if that is not doing that is pastime. placed an exhaust gas analyzer on the radiator. you do not constantly see effervescent good off while head gaskets leak.

Fill it up, run it and see where the leak is coming from. Mechanics aren't magic. They just use their eyeballs to find the leak.
8 years is about average life for a radiator.
