Perhaps you are are referring to a TV comedy series called "Third Rock from the Sun" that starred John Lithgow, French Stewart and Kristen Johnston as aliens visiting planet Earth. Since the Earth is the third planet (after Mercury and Venus) in order from the Sun, a humorous way of giving directions to aliens wishing to find our world would be to say that Earth was the "third rock (i.e., planet) from the Sun."

Given that the first two planets closest to the Sun are Mercury and Venus, with hard crusty surfaces, Earth is the third one in distance from the Sun, followed by Mars which is farther from the Sun than Earth (the fourth rock from the Sun).

Jupiter, Uranus, and Saturn are all gas giants (predominantly made of gases) and are not considered to be rocky planets although there might be some rocky substance at their core.

Pluto is still out there flying around, and it is a rock also, but it flies around in an orbit that is quite different from the orbits of all the other planets, and folks have chosen, recently, to drop it from the list of actual planets, preferring to think of it more as a large asteroid or dwarf planet.

So...1,2,3 = Earth
When measured from the Sun.

Ok so you got the sun, Mercury, Mars, then Earth....essentially we are the "third rock from the sun". But if you are asking about the TV show, it was a comedy about aliens who took a human form and lived on Earth in what they called "Third Rock from the sun"

because first and second rocks are taken. also if you count the planets closer to the sun than us you will find that there are 2

Because the second rock is too hot and the fourth rock is too cold.
