big bashing of our government. If the technique fits the terrorist, then I am all for it!
U.S. officials knowledgeable about the CIA's use of the technique say it was used on three individuals -- Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the alleged mastermind of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks; Zayn Abidin Muhammed Hussein Abu Zubaida, a senior al-Qaeda member and Osama bin Laden associate captured in Pakistan in March 2002; and a third detainee who has not been publicly identified.

Another great answer!
I think terrorists lose their human rights when they commit themselves to blowing up children for whatever cause they support.

...I think terrorists lose their human rights when they commit themselves to blowing up children for whatever cause they support.
However, the US cannot claim to be "land of the free" or the "arsenal of democracy" and then turn around and torture people...
Can't have it both ways.

First, a reminder: the vast majority of the subjects at Guantanamo Bay have been released because it turned out that they were completely innocent of all wrongdoing.
Second, if we waterboard subjects and otherwise torture them, we no longer have the moral high ground if an enemy does the same to our soldiers. As such, we should treat our imprisoned enemies the way we would want our enemies to treat our troops.
Third, there is a vast quantity of evidence that shows that torture doesn't produce reliable information, while other non-torture techniques have been shown to produce larger amounts of more reliable information. Therefore, if one actually cares about protecting the country, it is better to go with the non-torture tactic.
Lastly, as Christians, we cannot condone torture. Jesus said: You have heard that it was said, "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth". But I say to you, do not resist an evildoer. If anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.
It is shameful that so many call for torture because it works in the movies, even when it is ineffective, immoral and exposes our troops to danger. They should be ashamed of themselves, and they should pray for forgiveness.

Because liberals have a vested interest in America losing the war on terror. They are living in a delusional world where they think that war has rules- and we are fighting an enemy who if we only love them- will love us right back.
We are not fighting a war based on the Geneva convention. We are fighting people who want to destroy us and no options (nukes, biological, chemical) are off the table.
These animals would lop off your head and not bat an eye- but heaven forbid we do anything to cause the slightest bit of discomfort. No matter how much compassion you show them- they want you DEAD because you are an infidel.
Think about it people- liberals would rather countless Americans die than one of these barbarians be exposed to the slightest bit of discomfort... frankly its treasonous and if this were WW2 even FDR would either toss them in jail or put them in front of a firing squad for giving aid and comfort to the enemy.
Heck- look no further than than the last Democratic debate-Bill Richardson said that "human rights outweigh the national security (of the united states). Is this insane or what???!!!???
They should be ashamed.

You do of course realize that the reason countries like Iran hate us so vehemently is that, after we overthrew their democratically elected government in the 1950's, we also had the CIA train their own secret police organization, SAVAK. These people have long since forgotten more about torture than most nations ever know. Their repressive methods are well documented and are so heinous that even I can't believe that some of them took place under the auspices of the US Government advisers.
That is why we do not ever torture. First of all, it's against all of the human rights treaties that we are signatories of. Second, torture does not give you the information you want. It gives you the information the tortured person thinks you want to hear. Lastly, what we do will be done to us at a later date. If we are not the leaders in human rights, then everything we say and do abroad is laughable.
Like it is now, thanks to Bush and his policies of torture.

I am a Democrat who hold socially liberal ideals and who hapens to respect the constitution, the American way of life and believe we should follow the geneva conventions as we are bound to do just that.
1) This current administration defined torture as any physical force which causes organ failure. So, breaking bones with clubs, shocking people with electrodes, forcing people to eat feces and gargle with dog vomit, oh....just use your imagination because none of this is torture. Or is it?
2) Drowning people is not a technique for interrogation it is in fact simply torturing people by droning. There is no such thing as a simulated drowning. Waterboarding is drowning someone while stopping a little shy of killing them. Think of waterboarding as partially killing someone. Howexactly is this not torturing someone.
3) Why do you think the tapes of waterboarding were destroyed. Could it be that the so called techniques were really torture by any reasonable standards including the standards to which we are bound under treaties and international agreements.
4) The American way of life is not a joke or a thing to be taken lightly. We do not torture people. We are better than this. We are responsible for projecting truth and goodness, not torture and fake motivation for war.
5) If you believe that we only tortured three people you are quite naive.
6) Bush ordered this with his administration staff being in favor of this illegal activity. Yes, he is to blame and the Democrats who remained silent need to resign as well.
7) There are other ways to get information without torture. If you are all for torture then you need to be kept far away from any power as you simply have not learned what it really means to be an American citizen. All who agree with you also should feel less than American. Shame.

People are upset because it is torture which should be and is illegal. They have found a loop because this technique is not specifically outlawed yet, Even if a person killed the president torture should not be used. We are better than that and it is not what this country was founded on.
When you torture someone you are able to get anything out of them even if it is untrue because they want it to stop .

They would rather protect the killers that blow up innocent children and families and cut the heads off of their prisoners than to take up for their own country. They will try to find any small violation they can and blow it out of proportion. They have no solutions to anything except to criticize the other party!

I am all for waterboarding. Plus people! Waterboarding never killed anyone. It only makes them feel like they are drowning. But I guess the Democrats and the ACLU will complain that it's torture. Listen up. Your talking about waterboarding the same people who strap on a suicide belt to kill themselves and innocent bystanders. And the Democrats and the ACUL are worried about waterboarding which never killed anyone. I do Not Get it. I guess the Democrats will complain about anything to get into the White House.

Because some people have this wacky idea that if you're going to swear to support and defend our Constitution (which makes treaties part of the supreme law of the land), that three violations are three too many.
Me, I've been under that oath since 1986. How about you?
