i give you all the credit in the world for wanting natural childbirth. for me the pain was always too intense and i needed something.my first two i had an epidural and i cant tell you how much more RELAXING the birth is with it. however with my third child i was forced to give birth naturally due to the stupidty of the nurses ....at least in my eyes. when i eventually calmed down after relizing i would not be getting an epidural and delivering without and drugs i tried to breath and i had my eyes closed the whole time. im not sure if this is your first child or not. your body will go into a fight or flight mode where you will be shivering and cold but it will pass as you begin to push. no one ever told me about that. eventually you will think to yourself i have to push just to get this baby out and it will all be over. my advice just close your eyes and remember i have to push to have the pain end. i say do the epidural it makes birth so much easier and relaxing. there is nothing wrong with it....thats why its there. good luck and congrats

I gave birth to both my babies all naturaly. I took some pranayama classes. Pregnancy yoga classes. Accupuncture treatments, Homeopathics, Eroma therapy and massage. You dont HAVE to take any classes to learn how to do any of those things. You can buy a DVD or read up online about it. Insted of accupuncture you could try EFT Emotional Freedom Technique. Keep in mind it is called labor for a reson though. Child birth is a very blessed and INTENSE experiance. Nothing like you have ever felt before. The intesity may be preseved as pain but be strong. YOU CAN DOT IT! Another thing that has helped me was meditation. Very relaxing.

Im 17wks5 days, and im planning on going au natural if possibe, but like you i will take medical intervention if needed :) Ive been trying to think of ways that will keep me calm and not want to kill my husband
1) make a relaxing music playlist on your ipod. or make a cd with all your relaxing faves. That way you can focus on that while the contractions are icky.
2) Write a note to your baby. Tell the baby whats going on and what you want to happen. This will keep your energy focused on the baby.
I hope that helps :)

I used the Bradley method with all four of mine. I read the book, Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way. The book even has the practice exercises in it. It really works. I was so relaxed my husband took a picture of me during a contraction in transition. It looked like I was sleeping. Research the Bradley method. I know you can find it on the net.

the one thing i learned at the childbirth classes is that at one point in time the pain cant get any worse...so with each contraction i just told myself that the pain wouldnt get any worse....the other helpful tip is just remembering that the pain will end soon...the baby cant be inside of you forever...i went through 14 hours of labor and did it with no pain meds....and i am proof that you can stay calm during labor....you just need a strong support coach that helps you through the pain...

I had no meds until about 5 minutes before I started to push..I just gave up on myself and didn't think I could handle anymore..Just remember that there IS a light at the end of the tunnel and MANY,many women have done this before you..Think of happy thoughts and put yourself in a peaceful state of mind...

my wife and I just went to the classes and the nurse gave us two bits of great advise..
1. use slow breaths and one big breath, dont rush anything
2. try to keep your mind on the baby, don't wonder off and worry about something else
hope it helps

ok i know this is weird but....
i have had preterm labor and normal labor and 2 past due date labors lol
and by my experience...the longer the baby stays in the shorter adn less painfull my labor went....
both times i practically laughed them out!
i was 1 week over my due date with the first and 2 weeks over with the other one.
the labor was fast and nearly painless.try putting yourself on bedrest till the baby comes naturally.
hope i helped:o)
