I will not watch that movie. One of my family members did some "research" on the movie, and in the movie God (the Creator of the WORLD) dies. That is so dumb. Whoever made that movie is going to die! I know that's harsh but seriously...and plus it looks so dumb!! But Nicole Kidman looked really pretty in the previews.

I haven't seen the movie yet, however, I believe that the powers that be are making a to do about nothing. The book has been available for a very long time and, up until recently, no one ever really spoke of the book; now a movie has been made and there seems to be nothing but controversy. Some have gone to the extreme of banning the book in schools etc.
I personally wish to see the film to draw my own conclusion.
I will not let the powers that be determine what I read or watch. Those days are long gone.
People need to remember, it is just a movie made from a book. A book derived from someones imagination.

Yeah, I agree too. I wanted to go to it with an open mind, because even though I am a Christian, I do support freedom of speech (I don't want to be silenced any more than the next person does.) However, I found it to be a complete waste of my time. It was boring, the acting was surprisingly poor, the CGI was not really up to par with what I expected, and it just seemed like a huge set-up for the next movie. All-in-all, it came across as an unispired (and uninspiring!) diatribe against the Catholic church. Who wants to sit through an hour and a half of that???

I don't know much about it, except that it's based on a book that is supposedly Anti-Christian - not necessarily "based on Satan." I guess the kids at the end of the book end up 'killing God' so that has Christians in an uproar. I am a strong Christian, and I won't see this, probably because of that - but I also think that everyone's entitled to their own opinion...

Try reading the Northern Lights, retitled The Golden Compass in the US, The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass written by Philip Pullman. Far better written than Harry Potter trash.
I also assume by not understanding the Dark Materials trilogy, you are probably American, and that would explain a lot of things...

The book, and its two sequels, that make up the "His Dark Materials" trilogy were amazing.
But this movie I really have no intention on seeing until it's on DVD, my brother saw it and he says it's way off base from the books, and I hate when films take liberties with the original plot to be more mainstream.

Loved it....
Side note... NOT everything has to do with GOD and SATAN. Why does everyone think everything is based on god for sakes if you need to pick something apart pick apart the Bible you want a fairytale there you go!

I can only go by what i've heard, since I haven't seen it. I don't think I'd take young kids to see it, or even recommend it to someone who is iffy in their faith. But I would like to see it before I totally judge it.

It kinda seems to pull you into its strange little world, no movie has ever done that before. But I don't know if that means its good or not...
