Clever people. I know some of them personally, you, obviously don't.

The technology we use today was invented by humans (some of them really clever, others with normal intelligence but having worked a long time on a problem). In almost all cases, it is possible to trace the application to a discovery and an understanding of a science principle. The cases where we can't are things that have been around for a long time (like the wheel).

If life did not exist, we would not be having this discussion. This is resolved by using the anthropic principle: if the universe was totally unfriendly to life, we would not be here; since we are here, the universe (or part of it) must be suited for life.

Universes where life is impossible can easily be "imagined" in mathematics. In fact, the early solutions to Einstein's equations involved empty universes (the math was much easier -- no one believed in such 'universes' but they helped establish the structure of the equations).

People in the past were far more clever than we give them credit for. Just because we can't do something, we assumed that they also couldn't.

Romans could transport drinking water over hundreds of kilometres, in quantities sufficient for whole towns. We'd be hard pressed to do the same (not because we have forgotten how, simply because we can't figure out a way to make a hefty profit from it).

Egyptians understood the equation of time and had water clocks so precise that they knew its value for each period of the year. Most modern North American would not even know what we are talking about.

What a stupid question! All things are invented by clever people. If you mean was the technology gifted or planted by aliens, then I think you need serious help and probably different drugs from the ones you are obviously using.

Imagining nothing is not possible and is a contradiction in terms. Try using your brain for once.

Aliens no doubt have technology that parallels ours very closely, but some of their inspired people developed it as we developed ours.
We or they will probably never get the chance to exchange ideas but we will all keep on progressing.

Well, you can learn quite a bit by watching some clever animals. I wonder if we'd have learned to fly in quite the same way if birds hadn't demonstrated it first.

I bet the first tools were used by other than human 'hands'.
