Because rich people do what Stewart did all the time. What Vick did is considered a much more horrific crime. Far less people were concerned with Stewarts actions and I'm sure no one said that Martha Stewart "deserved the hottest place in hell." Vick became a representative of all dog fighters and a target for any and everyone against animal cruelty. Vick had protesters at his trial and mass media coverage. Senators spoke on the subject. When Martha Stewart was on trial, people were surprised, but not as many people cared.

Michael Vick deserves all that he gets. I don't feel sorry for him or anyone associated with him at all. He had a choice. He made the wrong one. I think he's actually getting off pretty easily. I read a statement that said it's a difficult day for him and people involved with him. Oh please, a difficult day is when someone finds out that they have cancer or something else damaging. This is not a difficult day. This is justice!
Martha Stewart deserved worse than what she got because she knew better first of all. But she didn't hurt any animals or other people like Vick did. He and the NFL make me sick.

Many factors go into account for this,Martha Stewart is female which our laws are softer on than males, many animal lovers like PETA were outraged by what Vick did, which had a big influence on the outcome, and Vick is not exactly seen as a model citizen, while Martha Stewart is the darling of many houswives and hollywood crowd

It looks like they are making it clear that his behavior is in no way acceptable. It goes against the grain of humanity.

While greed is not so nice aspect of humankind, it is sometimes encouraged in a consumer economy. All Martha really did was sell some stock after a friend advised it, albeit with insider information. She was made an example as well.

But, the barbarism of what Vick was convicted of is a far more dangerous crime to society in general. They should not pretend like he was the only one though. To reach the rich and famous, an extreme vice like this has to be still in operation. Maybe they should have used Vick to bring the whole racket down instead of just making an example. Touch call.

I'm surprised Martha got it as easy as she did especially messing with what she did but as long as everyone gets paid their dues Im sure it was easy to negotiate her freedom to an extent. Michael Vick's crime is harsher in the eyes of the public...we have all been taught that the surest way to killing a human being is by killing an innocent animal in brutal ways. I dont care who you are in society, cruelty to another living being should be punished more severely than taking a few pennies from the government.

Vick isn't even getting "hard" time, not as much as he should have gotten... 23 months is NOTHING in comparison and with good behavior he won't even be there for 2 years. Martha Stewart stole funds, she isn't responsible for death.

I've seen the answers to-date and they're all wrong. The truth of the matter is that Martha baked up some garlic and tomato artichoke hearts with heart of palm garnish for the bailiffs and then slipped a nice bribe into the docket for the judge. Face it, Martha can simply bake and decorate better and it impressed the judge.

.....course she can't "ball" like 7, but life ain't fair.

Martha didn't even get time for insider trading. She got jail time for giving misleading answers in an investigaation. Vick not only financed, but operated, an organization dedicated to (inhumanely) killing animals for gambling.

It is all Black and White and male versus female. Vick is getting screwed, but only in that context. MV and MS should both serve Hard Time. Vick is being fairly punished for his crimes. Stewart was not.

Vick was involved in illegal gambling and extreme (i think 6 "official, proveable" accounts of) animal torture/murder. The guy held illegal dog fights in his backyard and would, with his own hands, drown the dogs to death who didn't want to fight or who were too injured to fight again...

...that's pretty freaking messed up, man. Any normal, non-famous person would probably have gotten 4 to 5 years behind bars, he's getting less than 2, and will probably even get that off early.

Martha got some small inside info on her own stocks, which is really just barely illegal.

big difference my friend...
