I am due on thursday the 13th, i am still in no pain what so ever, no contractions, blah blah. i walk and hike and stretch and am super super active. anyways i was thinking, since she will probably be late, if she could be induced on my birthday, which is the 19th. that would be six days overdue, and im sure she would be fine. she is a big baby already, im 5'10 and my boyfriend is 6'2. anyways, i think this is a quite reasonable request. has anyone been able to choose the day to be induced, after almost a week overdue?

Depends on the doctor, worth asking. I know my doctor has a group and they take turns being on call, I was induced by a differant doctor than my own because of this. Also just because you are induced on a certain day does not mean you will have the baby that day I was induced on the 23rd of May and my baby ended up being born by csection the 24th. Good Luck though

If you go 41 weeks into a pregnancy, your doctor will most likely suggest induction. If your birthday is only 6 days over due...chances are your doctor would be fine with that date.

NOTE: An induction on the day you choose....doesnt mean she'll come that day. If you are lucky and your body has done some of the work...great, you might be in luck.

I was induced on a Saturday morning and had to have an emergency C Section Sunday night because there was no progress..it could have been another 24 hours of labor...and that would suck.

Good luck. I think you'll probably go into labor on your own before that point.

Since due dates are really just an estimation some doctors don't like to induce until you are a week late, the 19th is about that time. Talk to your doc. Some like having planned inductions so that they are not called in due to natural labor. To be honest being induced is so much worse than going into labor naturally. Good luck either way!

It does seem like it depends on the dr. I went in with a few stomach pains a day before my due date and they just went ahead and scheduled the induction 2 days after my due date. THank god. My baby was already almost 9 lbs. I had to even have a c-section at that point, though- the dr. said there was no way he was getting out any other way. So, you don't want the baby to get too big.

Your height as parents won't really affect the size of baby at birth...I'm 5'10 and my husband is 6'...our first was 7 lbs 4 oz, at 40 wks 2 days. #2 was 9 lbs 6 oz at 40 weeks 1 day. He was just built bigger...still is at every stage. My parents are 5'8 and 5'11, I was 6 lbs 7 oz. My sister's 5'11, her husband is 6'...their first was 7 lbs flat at birth...all varying lengths.

You could very easily go late, but you could also go tomorrow. You don't have to have any signs prior to going into labour. You could wake up at 3 o'clock tomorrow morning to contractions...you just never know.

If you are late, yes, you could ask to be induced on your birthday...it would depend on the policy of your doctor, hospital or even local health authority whether or not they'd book it then...some have a policy of making you hit 10-14 days overdue before inducing. It would also depend on how busy they are with other cases of induction, c-sections, etc.

Also, just because you're induced on say, the 19th does not mean that she'll come on the 19th. She could come on the 20th, even the 21st. That would depend on how long your labour went.

In any case, good luck...it's not long now no matter what. :)

It all depends on the baby. They will do an ultrasound to check everything and make sure it is alright. If your doing well they normally wont let you go further than a week overdue. It increases risks to the fetus. I was induced and everything went smoothly. Hope all goes well and Congrats!

Sounds like your beautiful baby girl is warm and dont want to come out yet. But you never know, at any second she could just suddenly want to come out without any signs,
When I finally went in labor with my twin boys, it was sudden, I wasnt in pain or any signs at all then "BAM" back pain and here they come! Just out of nowhere.
Yes some doctors will let you pick the day to be induced if it comes down to it because I planned the day for mine (they endend up comming though before the day we planned) but some doctors will make the date themselves for when they are not booked with other ingagements.
Good luck and congrats!

They gave me a choice and I looked at them like they were crazy and said "TODAY, RIGHT NOW." They did it that day and another day a week later and still no labor. When they did a c-section they saw that my uterus was twisted and the baby could not have come out anyway. Years later I read that the drug they use, pitocin, is possibly what triggered my son's autism. Don't induce if you don't have to.

My mother did with my baby sister and she was only 4 days over due. You will have to speak to your Dr. though, some do not like to induce.

good luck!

I was a week overdue, and they had to induce it. I tell you what, do it as fast is you can. I have very bad complication during birth, cause baby was so big.
