Some years ago at Christmas time, after we had moved into a new place, we set up the tree and went off to do some shopping, leaving our two cats alone for a couple of hours. When we returned home we first thought that we had been robbed. The tree was knocked over and every single ornament had been stripped off and (presumably) batted around the house a few times, garland was strewn everywhere and the cats were nowhere to be found... until we stood the tree back up and discovered the two of them hiding in the branches. Now we put a layer of red and green balloons around the bottom of the tree (the cats are terrified of balloons) but that little episode took hours to clean up and trashed some dear family heirloom ornaments. I almost re-invented the catapult that day.

Well, my cat craps on the floor everyday, but it's easy to clean since it's a hardwood floor. Okay here's a good story:
When i live on the sailboat, we had to climb down a 5 step stair to get down into the boat. As you are putting your foot down for the last time, you look left and there is a couch with a built into the boat shelf running along the top and a lot of books and junk up there because there is not other place to put it. The couch is covered with a blanket because the upholstery is mangled due to humidity and wear. It also has several pillows, and a throw blanket and a huge stack of mail we hadn't gotten to in a few days on it. One evening, after dark, I descended into the dark boat, having forgotten to turn on a light before I left. In the darkness, I put my foot down on the floor inside the boat and felt something a bit squishy. I yelled, okay, whichever pet is underfoot, you need to move! It didn't move. I tapped it a few times with my foot. It wasn't the cat, she would move and the bird was in her cage. I stepped aside from the lump onto a floor that was uneven. Did they knock over the trash and I was stepping on that now. I stretched over and flipped on the light. There on the floor, in the middle of a gigantic mess of blankets, pillows, three days of mail and EVERY SINGLE thing off that storage shelf above the couch and my cushion from the couch, was my pet skunk and his little girlfriend that I was babysitting. It took me about an hour to get everything picked up with the skunks underfoot, wanted to play the whole time. They are so cute!

I have to cats that have taken a liking to scratching the crap out of my oversized chair and ottoman. They've knocked countless glasses, dishes and containers over. One cat has chewed through my land-line phone cord, the cord to my keyboard, my cell phone re-charger cord and a few other electrical cords (none of them were plugged in). The same cat learned how to get up onto my 6' curio cabinet and broke a music box by shoving it off the top. The same bad cat also chewed some of the metal blinds in my kitchen. They also scratch the litter so much that they fling it out of the box so my bathroom is a sand trap and I have to Swiffer vac it twice a day.
It's a really good thing they're cute.

I don't have any pets, & I wouldn't have any indoor pets (except for tropical fish or reptiles). If it has a coat of fur or feathers, I don't want it in my home. I once did some re-modeling on a neighbor's rental property, which included carpet-cleaning (off-white carpet) behind former residents that had a female German Shepherd. The stains from where she laid (in heat) were not completely removable.

To this new house that we just moved into last month, a lot to the carpets. The cats have vomited a lot on it and tinkled on it a lot =\ Actually so has my smaller dog, luckily no damage from the Rottweiler, I've been lucky there.

Only when my cats knocked over something and it broke due to the fall. Nothing else.
However, we bought our current house from people who had 2 cats and 2 dogs. The woodwork is scratched in places and the paint was scratched up - we had to repaint pretty much everything. And the backyard had long areas with no grass due to the dogs running back and forth in the same area over and over again.

I currently have a Golden that chews anything made of plastic. She leaves pretty rainbow droppings all over my yard. Before her, I had a black lab that tore a section of the metal siding off of my last house. I had to take her to the vet to have her lip stitched. I never locked her out of the house again.
