Each person is unique. Every person I've met in my life is special in their own way, because each one of them is very different and has touched my life in varied ways.. :)
People are special to me because they love and appreciate me for who I am...
People who don't love and appreciate me are also special to me because they've made a difference in my life.
Everyone I've met has helped me grow. They've crossed my path and taught me lessons. They've contributed to my bank of memories, always open to recollection and reflection.
Everyone I've met has made me the way I am; unique and special. And that's why these people are special to me.

This is a REALLY tough one--as one on the autistic spectrum, I am unable to "feel the love" out of neurology. I actually became someone special to others instead; whether via music and song, hospitality, technical assistance, or whatever transient need filled at the time, it was others that showed me the effect I had, particularly at Church, where I CONSTANTLY look for needs that need filling.
In contrast, identifying the "special people" for me is a major challenge, one actually exacerbated by the "decade in hell" that I had to endure in the 1990's; I have no clues to the criteria by which I would identify them.

I love trust and admire them for their strengths and weeknesses. They are honestly good people with good intentions and view life as a learning experiance where we continualy grow into the people we want to be. The people in my life are in my life because they have worked with me on our relationships for a better understanding of our differences. These people are walking angles and I would not trade them for the world.

they are special because they are just there and stick around, sometimes go away and come back, going through the same motions of living and are very loving and supportive and sometimes crazy, which is a good thing and just having all that is special.
but sometimes all our egos clash and it makes for very uncomfy-sad moments, that stress us all out.
