Umm. after making sure he wasn't a threat, I would probably let him in and get him something to eat.
I know I would want someone to do the same for me....

Now if he had a ski or hokey mask on, I might just let him stay outside.... But there's so many times I wish I could help others who need it. What if it was a child?

Its a hard problem. I'm assuming you want to help. Here in New York we have homeless outreach and the police are much better with the homeless than you would think. Remember many homeless people have serious mental problems and can behave in erratic ways. See if you can get decent professional help so the guy gets connected to an appropriate program.

Your father should go to court and get custody or your brother. That should be the first thing on the agenda. If he doesn't want custody of your brother, then he should at least report what is going on to the Department of Children and Families and let them intervene. Your brother is in a more dangerous situation than your mother is. At least she is a grown-up and can take care of herself (kinda). If you can't talk some sense into your mother (and she is mentally stable) then it is her decision where to go and where to live. Even though you don't like what she does, it is her life, even if she makes mistakes. If I were your father, I wouldn't give her any extra money though. Make sure the two of you get help for your brother. If you are wondering if she really is going to her sister's, contact her sister and ask her.

Be civil about it...Not all of us are lucky to have a home. Just ask him politely if he would consider sleeping some where else other than your porch. Offer a blanket and what ever else you can give. It is the holiday season!!!

Offer him some food and some clean clothes and a blanket and some money and I would ask my ex if he could set him up with a free room at the hotel he works at so he could shower and stay warm for another night!

What my grandparents did when this happened them.
They gave him a bed in the basement and he lived there for 2 years. I guess he scared the crap out of my mother and her 6 siblings though.
