I would use another word for it starting with a b and ending with a "slap", but it is politically incorrect and I'd get reported.

"You'd freaked if you lived in the 70 & 80's we prayed in school and said the nation anthem. Guess what we had less crime back then..."

WRONG!

Violent crime has been decreasing since 1994

Ladysable,

The poster said we had less crime in the 70s and 80s then today. This is WRONG. Crime rates are lower today since then. They have been decreasing since 1994.

Look at the Bureau of Justice website chart.

Of course that statistic is per 1000 people and the population of this country has increased by 100,000,000 since 1970. Its possible that incidences of crime have increased but not at the same rate of population growth.

However we do know that the types of crime have changed. More crimes by and against children and the secularization of this nation has contributed to that. I don't even believe in their Sun god and I know that the moral foundation taught by Christianity is a positive influence the denial of their morals can't be a positive influence. Not to defend the insidious nature of all religions but there are certain good aspects that your secularization denies.

I will agree that since the 80's we have become more passive as a society. More passivity from the population has historically had a relationship with a less free society.

We said the Pledge of Allegiance in the 60s and 70s. No praying and no national anthem. The person quoted must have attended some cult in the bible belt.
Yes, crime went on a downswing under President Clinton. It's flattened out under Bush.

Public Schools stopped saying prayers in School in the early 1960's. Before that the crime in schools was so low as to be negligable. The worst problems facing high-school principals was; Running in the hallways, chewing gum and talking in class. Now it is; Teen pregnancy, suicide and violent crimes.

I suppose that now that schools look more like prisions, with metal detectors and security guards, the crime is lower than it was at its peak but it is in no way as low as it was before prayer was removed from schools. That claim is simply the not the case.

Merry Christmas!

Yeah...but I was never in school when it was 'locked down'...the term didn't exist when I was in school! (70's and 80's and we didn't say the Lord's Prayer in school...but we did Pledge Allegiance to the Flag every morning!)

My local school has been 'locked down' 4 times since September...and why...because some kid came to school with a gun, hunting knife, pellet gun...and the fourth time I can't remember what it was!

Yeah...violent crime is decreasing....but children with weapons is WAY up!

Yes it is but unfortunately the regressive right will never let facts get in the way of their rhetoric.

BTW The Christian attempts to put prayer into schools run directly counter to biblical teachings. Jesus said prayer should be a private affair devoid of public display: "And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by men. Truly, I say to you they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room (or closet.) and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret..." (Matthew 6:5-6 RSV).

Sorry, 1994 has nothing to do with the 70's or 80's.

Try again!
