I believe that something like what was described did exist. As for no trace, the person that mentioned Troy got it right. That was a "myth" for years before we actually found the city. There is a grain of truth in every myth. Sometimes the grains add up to something real and discoverable. I believe we have not yet discovered the truths to Atlantis.

I do not believe in Atlantis. I do believe that ancient societies had more technology than we give them credit, but I don't believe there was a super society.
That's like saying you believe that there must be technologically advanced life on other planets because of all the sci fi books that have been written by authors of so many different cultures. This is just ancient sci fi writing.
If Atlantis existed, where is the evidence of trade with other cultures? Even miniscule cultures, by ancient standards, have had trade routes, markings, evidence of battles with other cultures, statues traded by monarchs, etc. in OTHER lands with whom they traded.
Even if we don't know where Atlantis is, we should know by now whether or not it exists. If Atlantis was real and Plato met someone who went there (or went there himself), that means contact was made. If contact was made, I imagine trade would have happened eventually. No trade, no war, no evidence of existence --> no existence.

Yes, I believe in Atlantis. Look how many people questioned the existence of Troy, and other mythical and/or historical places before they where 'rediscovered'. When you put it into perspective, it's not really all that far-fetched(as long as you don't base your belief on science-fiction movies, etc.), with earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and other natural disasters that could have erased all the evidence. But maybe the evidence is still there and we either haven't found it yet, or it's been found but not recognized for what it truly is.

I tend to believe in it. I mean how hard is it to believe that a city could fall into the sea and be lost? It is widely known that California and Florida could someday fall victim to the sea if we ever have massive polar ice melting (which raises the sea level - and more so than is already happening) or a massive earthquake along the Cali-Nevada fault lines.
And then, how exactly do you explain the road underwater off the coast of Florida in the Caribbean? It's like 80 miles long or something out in the middle of the Caribbean Sea.

Atlantis (in Greek "island of Atlas") is the name of a legendary island first mentioned in Plato's dialogues Timaeus and Critias.
In Plato's account, Atlantis, lying "beyond the pillars of Heracles", was a naval power that conquered many parts of Western Europe and Africa 9,000 years before the time of Solon, or approximately 9500 BC. After a failed attempt to invade Athens, Atlantis sank into the ocean "in a single day and night of misfortune".
Some Atlantis theorists also believe that survivors who escaped the disaster went up the Nile River and resided in Egypt. They passed on their knowledge and advanced technologies to the ancient Egyptians and help them build the pyramids. Their race eventually died out and their secrets were kept away hidden in the pyramids as buried treasures for the ancient Pharaohs.
Secrets that were with held were believed to be the mystery of the universe and the origin of mankind. Others believe they were actually an alien race sent to help to civilize mankind.

I am a believer. Total destruction to me means just that. If the island was totally annihilated then nothing at all would exist. No way to prove or disprove it. Also, just because no one has found any proof does not mean it still isn't out there.

Absolute believer here. It would not have appeared in so many cultures around the world if it didn't exist. My only question is - was it destroyed by a cataclysmic event, or did they stage that and withdraw to somewhere we can't reach yet?
