2/15 x 5/8=1/12

you times to two top halves (numerators) of the fractions together so its 2 x 5 =10. (this is the top half of the answer).

you then times the two bottom halves(denominators) together so its 15 x 8 =120 (this is the bottom half of the answer)

you are now left with 10/120. If you want to cancel it down into a simpler fraction you find the highest common factor. (A number that can be divided in to both 10 and 120).In this case it is 10.

So you divide the top half by 10
10 divided by 10 = 1

and the bottom half by 10
120 divided by 10 =12

so the answer is 1/12.

Dividing is similar except you swop the second fraction round.
eg. 1/12 divided by 5/8 =

1/12 x 8/5 (you swop the top and bottom half round, and then times them.)

so the answer would be
8/60
cancel it down and it'll be
2/15

hope this helped

multiply top lines(numerator)and bottom lines(denominator)
2/15x5/8= 2x5/15x8 =10/120 then cancel =1/12

divide turn the second fraction (divisor) upside down and then multiply as above
eg2/15 divide by 5/8 = 2/15 x8/5

multiply straight across, top times top, bottom times bottom--2x5 over 15x8-10/120 or reduced 1/12. to divide, invert the SECOND fraction (8/5) then multiply
