My friend's motherboard was fried a few weeks ago, and I'm going to help him get a new one, or surprise him for Christmas or something.

An "Apple" one.

Far as I know they don't sell boards seperately.

Google Mac logic boards and you should find a number of places that sell motherboards. You may be able to get a board from Apple directly. If you are near an Apple store call and ask.
It may actually be cheaper to buy a used computer.
